Look what is possible with Unity 3D

Look what is possible with Unity 3D - 02/07/13 11:10

hi,

some guys believing Unity 3D is the holy cow and switch over because the Unity Developerteam-picture on their website shows many many people.

Acknex Development is actual done by a 1/8 part of JCL (7/8 of JCL provides nice Zorro updates for the "others" )

For this fact maybe some come to the conclusion that the bigger team provide the better engine.

But most of us already know.... the own game result is not done by an engine.
Its the result of own imagination and the knowledge to rule the tools.

Without that .... even Unity3D cant save anything.

Here is a test of an simulation by an big gamemagazine( sorry its german , but see the images ).

This game made with unity earned 4 Points of 100. A desaster.

The studio created similar games out of one basic idea. And all killed on reviews.

Because I didnt see any shadows - maybe its done with unity (free).
Ati cards delivers 5 FPS. Only with nvidia its playable (maybe physX).
In an related forum the developer wrote that his testmachines has 16 GB RAM.

Its also possible to make a crappy game with the cryengine.

A crap-game does not say anything about the potential of the engine.

That does not make the animations less funny. ^^

Well that's true! There is still a lot of skill required to produce such a piece of garbage.

this game reminds me the great work of a Hungarian video blogger, who bought all the cheapest games available in stores, and tested them deeply, so it was basically a worst games ever blog, in a really good style.

Well you can scrap the 4players review anyway because the score is sort of "random". Not that this game really would be decent but it's far from the badness that article tries to make up. I watch Let's Plays of Harald Fränkel (former editor of a big german game magazine) who regularly tortures himself by playing those kind of simulations that suck. That's why I've some insight into that game and while it tends to be boring it's faaar from such a low rating the 4players review gave it. There also have been some developer interviews which made clear that these games are like a 1-2 guys development made in a timeframe of a couple of months...

BTW:
I'm not entirely sure but that "runs hardly on ATI GPUs" comment is simply wrong as far as I know...

Everybody who comes to the games defense. You're probably a nice person. But please download and play the demo. Then we'll talk again.

But don't say I didn't warn you in the first place...

And when you're done go and get the Chirurgie Simulator 2011 which got 40% by the same reviewer and think about what you'd prefer playing and who took the 36% more fun away... grin

BTW:
Oh my god are we actually arguing about which pile of shit tastes better?! grin

Re: Look what is possible with Unity 3D - 03/05/13 13:11

Funny! I wonder if the developers played the game by themselves smile the graphics are nice, but the game seems to be inspired by "Dr. Bibber":

But nothing beats Trauma Center on Nintendo DS. Too bad that the game turns into a fantasy game with bird like viruses, but the first half is very realistic and challenging to me (for a surgery simulation):

Re: Look what is possible with Unity 3D - 03/05/13 15:53

Haha, I just played the demo of the airport firefighter simulator thing.
I had to laugh a lot. Such games make me very happy. But then I was sad, because I remembered, that somewhere a mother watched at the gamebox and thought "Hey, my son loves firefighter and this big trucks, he will sure love to play a simulation with them!"

Ok, I think, with some knowledge of lod and some investment into some better motioncapturing
this game would be at least playable, but not less boring.
But it has nothing to do with the engine.
I am absolutly sure you can create good games with unity. If you have the talent,
you are probably able to create good games with gs and every other engine, too.
The engine is never a mesurement for the quality of the resulting product.

True, yet I believe that it is possible to make reliable game engine comparison for example about fps
However whenever you touch this point you get stupid, imho, answers such as well it depends on the type of game, shadows, number of polys the hardware and all that stuff

It is selfunderstanding laugh

It should be possible to prepare a sort of test protocol which reflects the needs of an average modern game

From my experience Unity is very fast and 3dgs too

I'm glad to see your minds. The Tools doesnt matters. The own imagination and intension counts.

ah! another example for not existent gameplay.

In this case I dont know the used engine. So its not Unitys fault maybe. ......maybe laugh

Its a Bus Simulation located in New York developed and published by UIG.

Here is the Test by 4Players (sorry in german). Poorly result is 2 points.
