Before starting my RPG...

Before starting my RPG... - 09/16/07 20:59

Ok, i have an RPG in my mind that i started long time ago, but now i want to think in the future and i need people to please answer my questions.
I want to (i will try to) do it the professional way, i want this game to be very special, very good and i will care for my game like if it was my child. I want to take care of every little detail of the game because i don't want to fail (i would never allow this to happen) i want to go slow but secure.

I have future plans of porting the game to other systems (i want to do it on PSP because of the graphic system, but maybe it will be on PS2 or PS3) but as far as i know GameStudio cant be compiled in those systems so i may have to write the game from the scratch for the other systems, is that correct?
Maybe is better to use another engine? My plan is to use gamestudio because is very easy for me and is the only way i can complete the game for now. But if i have to rewrite it for another system I may do it.

Another question, is it better if i use trutype fonts fot my game? Is it better if i use bitmap fonts? It is very important because if i want to port to a new system maybe i have to use some "kind" of font system. I have seen somwhere that truetype fonts have problems because you have to have it preinstalled (but maybe you can tell the installer to install it on every user). What is better for triple AAA games?

Another thing is the music, i will use MP3 music, is there something i need to know about mp3? Is it free to use the codec?

What about the shaders? The only thing i know about shaders is that they are special effects that "some cards" support. IF i plan to port the game to another system like PSP, will the shaders work? IF i use shaders in my game do i need to add an option for people that have old cards? (If i use shaders the game will look very bad in old systems)

Well i may have more questions but for now, i am happy if someone with a little of experience could help me.

Thank you community!

Best advice is to just try it with GStudio.
All your questions are reliant upon you simply undertaking the project.

At present GStudio cannot be ported but having said that, porting is reliant upon an exceptional programmer regardless of the engine used(ie. it can..).

Bitmap fonts are always reliable but cannot be scaled like tt fonts, they are always squared per digit.

Shaders are eye candy and should be used only when you absolutly have to.

So step one, decide for sure what engine you want to start this proj off in and if its GStudio, we'll take it from there but be prepared for a whole heap of 'CAUTIONS'

Go hard out...

I'm going to use GameStudio A7. And in the future i may convert the game with another engine, it may not be hard because its C.
Are there any future plans to make GameStudio compatible with game consoles?
