The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 01/17/09 05:28

"The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio" comes with a CD that is supposed to include the resources for the two projects listed in the book - "Hector & Hex" and "Mama Kat". Unfortunately, the book is not complete. This is because the CD is missing a lot of the content necessary to finish the two projects.

The book is also listed on the 3dgamestudio.com downloads page under the "Books, Magazines & Services" section. The book even includes a technical review by Conitec. You would think that GameStudio/Conitec would have at least looked at the CD and verified that the information on the CD completed the book. After all, having such a book does help promote the software.

I have scoured the internet and this forum for the files to no luck. I was wondering if anyone has been fortunate enough to come across these files. If these files can be located I believe that they should be posted here for anyone else needs them or decides to purchase the book. GameStudio should maybe even consider removing the link to the book from its website if the files can not be attained. It is no help to anyone to purchase such a book when all relevant information is not even included.

Same. I've had to compromise and use template models. Also, some of the scripts are outdated and do not work.

I will have a look at my version of the book and cd to see if they too are missing this information. I am moving house so give me a few days to check.

Re: The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 02/10/09 15:29

is this book good? I am thinking of buying it. but I read some reviews saying it doesnt actually explain things in detail..... and it is more absolute beginners who don't want to read the online tutorial.

Re: The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 02/11/09 04:39

This is what I got out of the book:

Making games is not all that easy - Duh!

There was also a lot of information about game design.

The book walked you through making two games but the enclosed CD did not provide all the resources necessary to finish them.

Would I suggest to anyone else to purchase the book? Nah!
The only real helpful information I found in the book was the information on game design, but there is a lot of information regarding game design online. smile

Re: The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 02/11/09 15:11

are the two game examples good? do you learn something from these?
I supposed if the missing resources are models we can also use substitutes smile

Re: The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 02/27/09 03:55

Never mind.

I just wanted to complete something I started a long time ago and thought maybe someone had the missing info.

Would have been better of sending an email to the vendor when it mattered.

Thanks anyway.

Re: The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio - 03/02/09 16:42

i can still provide the info....but it would be wise for Conitec or Mike Duggan to do it. If you cant get anything from them then i will provide the files.

Cheers Moggy smile
