Need best Blood effect.

Hi,
I am developing a hack and slash game. I am using sprites for blood effect but I dont like it as the blood sprites fade in with bright backgrounds and the effect is not visually that effective. I am thinking of using models instead, but before I experiment any further, I would like suggestions from other's, as to what can be done so that the blood effect looks realistic.

try making a blood effect in easyparticle 3. Don't use models, sprites are the best idea for an effect like this.
