I need to know the best way to texture a level made of a model. How to make a texture scale and all
I remember seeing, in the sphere demo, an interior level made of a model and it had 'tiles' of faces, and the skin was just a collection of all the textures. However, with many textures per 'area' in each level ,this could be a problem.
Any advice anyone has to this would be appreciated. I'm a newbie to modelling levels
And i'm using Maya 7.0 to model.
P.S. sorry if I posted in wrong forum.. I was debating between this one and starting with gamestudio.

Hi

Find the 'Tower' tutorial which comes with the maya docs

An cheap way to make stuff tile on -anything- but without much regard to scale is just to apply Unitize-UV's, and that's that. Some people do their UV stuff by hand. I like to just select bunches of faces and do planar mappings onto them, and use the manipulator tool to adjust the position, scaling and rotation. You can planar map rocks onto a wall, for example, then grab the manipulator tool and drag around the blue corners in the 4 edges of the tool and this will scale the texture up/down/squish/stretch it etc. You can also grab multiple objects and do planar mappings on them both at the same time, and the placements via manipulators will mesh up, it's neato.

Hmm... scale does matter for form, plus the textures need to tile so your idea wont work monkey.

Checking out tower tutorial now, however.

Not sure if this will help but, here are some ideas.

You could make groups of polygons in Med and apply different textures to each
group.

The new Med will let you custom tile textures on any group of polygons too.

If you need more textures on your model level than med allows, you could
construct the level out of several smaller models using the above methods.

Not two, not one.

Hello,
Im using 3d Studio Max. When i apply UV mapping modifier on a model and tile the texture, will it still appear to be tiled when opened in MED?

Happy Birthday!

what you also can try is using a multi-texture shader on it... than just skin your model as normal and put the colors from the shader that is needed on teh skin. i hope you get me

Not sure I get you there. Can you be a little more specific, or maybe an online tutorial or something?

So then All I would do is have a color represent a texture, then I apply those colors to the model, then the multi- texture shader will replace the color? Will this still work for bump maps? Are you sure this makes it tile?

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

And one more thign about multi-texture shaders, how easy is it to align the textures?
