Remeber the fun game Mercs ,i also played it on my CPC amstrad !

Well ,i'm doing for fun and ot work 3D skills a remake of it
Some texturing parts i've done are really really bad
and made by simple tools or by hand
i won't rework the texture caus if i put the resolution from 2048 to 1024 it will work and it's not a game that will be selled.

Front (vertex not joined for the moment) !

i had not pics refrences on muscles so i textured muscles pretty fast
for clothes : when dodge and burn used well you can make pretty good cloth effect.

Back :

detail on metal work with some scratches, rust :
i've used different techniques seen on tutorials : scratches, some rust, noise,
horizontal blurr etc ...

i have used a symetry, but for central parts that too obvious on texture when you make details, next time i won't use symetry for them.

Well i'm not pro at all and i don't work on game industry, but i htink this model for an arcade remake can make the job
and perhaps not bad compared to some models made here by pure programmers
i have to make the head now.

Well it doesn't look bad for a non-pro.
Don't be mad at me, you said it your self ^^

Don't worry, allot of use have the same problem

The skin can always be improved, I see some pixelized textures like
around the area of the boots and the waist.
The color off the humainbody is good, I like the look of it.
One last thing, you forgot to mention the polycount

Overall it looks half way decent
I'm really curious how your going to model the head

Cheers

I think its fine for the most part, becasue in Mercs you dont see the characters up close.

I really hope you someday finsh this, I would love to play Mercs in 3D!

Polycount : 1810 faces.

For textures : i can rework them if i have time one day.
But it will be a free game with source and 3D art , so people will be able
to change / modify textures.

Matt : i also hope finishing it , it will be third person camera and be more futurist.
i plan to put big explosions / effects, destructible things and fun

For AI , i'll use scripted one easy to do , but with random placement of ome
ennemies and some random behaviour like :
- keep hiding and just pass the arm upper a wall to shoot player
- kamikaze : shoot all time and launch grenades while running to the player with
a detonator bomb
- lay down on floor before shooting
- well moves like in Jhon whoo for the ennemies : jump from a highter place and fire at same time , or jump to the ground and fire at same time.

variations and fun can be infinite

I don't know much about Mercs but the model looks nice all except for the skin like you said. I noticed that this and your last work have similar geometry, did you use a reference pic for this?

I discovered video game development was not my life's passion, that's why I'M SELLING MY 3D GAME STUDIO PRO for 1/3 of the full price.

i have reused anything and done by beginning with a simple cylinder !

My reference pics are in fact pictures of humans modeled in Wire view from tutorials or from 3D sites like 3D total and others.

for example you can have good things here :

I can't see the 1024x1024 skin - it looks like 256x256

indeed lot of parts i've made i left them without detail and plain color.

now look at last iłage : you'll see the definition of the sort of brown Belts
are really precise ,and you can see some precise noise on the green part.

it's an arcade game remake : no need for bump mapping and details , and i'll
resize texture to 512*512 : sufficient

im' not making Doom 3
