When I build my level;
levelsize 7230 units 12319 vertices 9935 visible surfaces 22 textures texture space 4103 Kb lightmap space 1036 Kb lightmap space (D3D) 5568 Kb 1018 regions
with 1 cpu ----> 50 sec. with 2 cpu's --> 50 sec.
So I can't say that there is a difference in using a single- or a double core processor.

Start the taskmanager before you run the map compiler. Then compare the cpu load during the building process, there should be a difference.

No, no difference at all; usage 52%. Only the second processor does all the work, even when I set the Cpu's to be used on 2. Same thing when I set this to 1.

Do you use the latest update? There was compiler version where the tasking was not correctly distributed on all cores.
The other thing is that sometimes windows xp (home edition) has some problems with setting the cores in the right way.
If your search in the forums, there was a tool around to fix that.

I am using the latest version; Commercial 6.40.5 and Windows XP Professional. What keyword can I use to search in the forums?

Sorry, I forgot the name of the tool. Unfortunalty Marco is not around anymore, he would know. Maybe the MS Knowledgebase or MSDN has some hints, other wise post it in the bug forum, as both cores should be used, but only for calculating visibility, as this is the largest process.
