This has been bugging me for the past few days.

I could have SWORN that there was a new command or feature or somthing that allowed us to change the layer property of objects. This was good news for that meant that we could, for example, have a true window feel to our games with us dragging panels in front of others when in focus and falling behind others when not.

But I can't find it and I fear I may have imagined the whole thing.

Can anyone lead me away from this insanity by telling me if this is all my imagination, if not where is the reference, and if so how you have dealt with dynamic layering WITHOUT creating a separate object for each layer?

layer_sort(void* element, var layer)

Places a layered element - a panel, text, view, or a view or sky entity - on a different layer.

Parameters:
element - pointer of type PANEL*, TEXT*, VIEW*, or ENTITY*.
layer - the new layer of the element.

Returns: Nonzero if the operation was successful.
Speed: slow

Example:
layer_sort(mypanel,999); // panel to the front

--- available since V6.40.5

In my manual under "layer_sort" - or more exactly under "CScript/Engine functions/Panels, Texts, Views/layer_sort".

I don't see the problem with texts:

text bla {...}
layer_sort(bla, 9999);

All this feature does is dynamically change layers.
Before this, you could not set layers at runtime.
Thus anything you could (or couldn't) do before with layering stays the same.

Well then thats pretty gay. Why cant you define if an entity can be viewed infront of a panel ?
