I've just now updated to A6.40.5 . But when I ran the new techdemo level, I noticed that the bullet holes do not render correctly anymore.

Instead, they render as rectangles with uniformly 50% alpha, even though transparent and flare are both set by the script.

Commenting out transparent but not flare, causes them to render as 100% opaque.

What gives?

Dirk

:Flare adds an alpha cannel to the picture, so once set to true, you canīt make it undone. If the pic has allready an alpha channel (eg .tga), flare wonīt change anything. (this command is OUTDATED)

:transparent - if the pic is a .tga, the max opaque is 50%, the min 0%.

Thanks for the answer!

Last night I already fixed the problem, by replacing my .tga bullet hole images with .pcx files.

Also, I seemed to notice that the new game engine doesn't automatically do inverse alpha anymore, if TRANSPARENT and ALPHA are both set. Even with the .pcx images, I didn't get inverse alpha.

But because I've been known to modify my weapons.wdl file, and because the Update to A6.40.5 didn't replace this template file, I don't recall if it was me who wanted to give the bullet holes inverse alpaha. Or if it was me who had made them .tga .

But around 2:00am in the morning, I was too tired to report the development to this forum, that I had fixed it.

Dirk

We strongly recommend to use TGA files for bullet holes, and _not_ to use the FLARE flag. Reason: FLARE creates a 16 bit image that looks very bad for today's standard. The Techdemo used FLARE because it was created for A5, not A6.
