This is strange. I am using a door model and it seems overly bright when placed inside the door frame. But when moved out of the door frame it is lit correctly. There is no light source or anything behind the door because I put a wall behind it. The mesh of the model doesn't contact the geometry at all either because i wanted a gap between the edge of the model and the wall on all side. The model behaves the same way without the gap as well.

This is a pic of the model when it is lit correctly, pulled out a little.

This is a pic of the model when it is too bright, in the frame in the wall.

Are you using static or dynamic lights?

models use a trace below them to detect what lighting they should have. when the model is in the wall, there is no surface beneath its origin (coz walls aren't solid objects, they are planes or hollow cubes). you could edit the model so its origin is in front of it, or set its lighting manually by code.

good luck

julz

edit: oh very sorry! didn't realize u had a gap in the wall anyway (couldn't tell from the pics). still, double check that the origin is over a lit level surface.

Hey slizzer, you didnt answer my question. Are you using static or dynamic lights? I was not referring to the sword thing.

I am asking that because yesterday i ran some tests with a test level to see if that problem happens in my level too. And its true, that happens in the level i made. I think there is an engine variable that fix that problem, i just cant remember which.

However, that problem seems to occur mostly with dynamic lights (the lights system really sucks in 3dgs, its a shame) and at certain camera angles, disapearing the stencil shadows also.

After some tests and messing up, the problem seems to disapear when checked shadow, polygon and cast flags at object properties. I dont know why, maybe you should ask conitec.

I hope it helps some way.

my bad, there aren't any dynamic lights.

Julz: the model isn't in the wall its in a door freame, also its a door and im using c rotate to open and close so if the origin is anywhere but to one side it will look funky

i made a pic to demonstrate

yello = door, of course
green = door frame, this has no back
blue = the wall on the back of the door frame to block the frame to keep any external junk from messing with it
pink = floor

also this is a dynamic model, it has an action assigned to it

Hiya.

This isn't gonna help you..but...have you calibrated your monitor lately? The reson I ask, is that my monitor is calibrated, and I can't even see the door in the fist pic. The second pic looks perfect. Your "demonstratio picture" you mention the colors "yellow" for the door...it's an olive green...and you say your floor is "pink"...it's most definitly purple.

I have found a LOT of artists and 3d folks don't actually calibrate their monitors, and then they see wierdness going on and think it's the program when it's actually just their monitor/video settings.

Just somthing to take a look at...

Did you read the post? I am having a problem with the door showing up bright when placed in the door frame and when it is moved out some it shows up correctly. I need help with why there is this lighting error. And I know what you're saying about the demonstation, I just opened the palette and grabbed the first colors closest to the cursor. I meant green and pink as a general description plus its not OLIVE it is CLEARLY more of a mint green.. lol. Also... I cannot BELIEVE I recieved feed back on the "incorrect" colors of a demonstation pic for people who have trouble with what I was trying to explain! LOL!

Anyone??

Editholio: I finally fixed it! The problem WAS with the origin of the model. I had the origin centered on the edge so that to rotate worked correctly... I moved the origin over into the model just a little bit and it's fixed.
