well, the shadows are casted in to the roof, and I see planar displacements in the shadowing ^^'

Absolutely. Test the RTS part with shadows. It is incredibly slow, ugly and only a very basic demo.

Ogre's terrain system is not the best. So I am not sure if they improve this particular issue.

At the moment this is not a commercial product. I don't want to destroy the marketing plans of Jevgeni and Sergej but this engnine needs some work though I think such a project can have a prosper future. But with a price that high it should beat the Reality Engine and this is not possible at the moment. Think about precomputed radiance transfer, top notch shaders, alternative scene-managers, faster real-time lighting, well made editors and AI.

Reality Engine have been baught by Unreal 3 company !!

But for such price indeed you can perhaps find better alternatives i think or
hire an interested really talentued programmer if you have a real serious
commercial game plan.

Like BV engine where authors have posted an ugly demo : they decided to post
demo with textures of the wire UVMapping to avoid bad critics

Ogre3D terrain is LOD , like Guild Wars games , i don't know if chunk terrain
is better or if a combination of the two would be better !

the RTS was slow : caus no optimisations , all things displaying simultaneously,
with any LOD , BV engine authors have encountered same critics with their
grass manegement demo caus they had done no optimisations at all (no LOD , no optimisations, too many meshes etc ...)

i 'v tested Ogre3D terrain : nothing to say , perhaps a real game based on it's terrain could show the real problems ??
don't forget Ogre3D is really plugin oriented , if i remember well it supprots LOD and perhaps chunked terrains ...

"this engnine needs some work"

Indeed lot of work ,and a serious price drop down

Thta's strange but for me it has been a great experince : all running smooth ,
all shaders we need and fullscreen ones (motion blurr, glass etc ..) ,
lot of animated models running with script at same time , really fast load times compared to BV or 3DGS ,
all smooth compared to same scenes on other engines

I don't want to promote the engine , i don't
need really to collect one more one (incomplete one without tutorials , docs)
But i found it smooth , with lot of interactive scripted things , 3D panel menus
to ropd ennemies and other staff, physics working and running correctly
all fast and smooth ... that's why i can't say it was bad or slow

I 'll tests shadows tonight, even if i know that feature is Frame rate eating even on AAA games running on my PC (sometimes i disable them or put at minimal setting).

Well there are no framerate problems here but well, the whole level has no real lighting besides some vertex light.. there is no per-pixel lighting, pointlight etc.. I dont think it needs light mapping of course, thats old news, but it does need real lighting on the level, not just on some simple models.

The shadow maps are really ugly even at 2048 size, and very buggy as well, the shadows project on the cieling sometimes.. this is bad coding.

Terrain is extremely primitive..

I'd much rather use A6 for 1% of the cost.

Lightening, perhaps you are sure ,
but Ogre3D already has light management with shaders , so it won't be difficult for them to add it.

Shaders of the demo are pixel shaders , well for the rest , perhaps ,don't forget they are programmers not 3D artists

And it's the beginning , just wait 6 months to see if the engine will continue ot exist , improve on lot of things.

ok the engine can be flammed in it's actual state and it's really oubvious price indeed
i think we would flame it less if the price was 100 $ instead of 4000 to 10000$

Indeed the authors are crazy about pricing

Yes shaders: cartoon , bumpa mapping , some others and in a 3D panel interface you can activate full screen shaders (glass, motion blurr etc ..)

i think you have only seen two rooms of the demo ? caus there is a part of the level with 4 other rooms where you can see different stuf !!

Well enought said, the engine is cool , no lightmapping, no real time lights
manegement with shaders, and pricing is really exagerated

OK, to reanimate the thread. On the webpage of the engine, they say there is an indielicense for 100$ for one commercial product.
I donīt know if this changes anything, since for me itīs very important that they could import my blender models. An iīm afraid that there isnīt very much information on the site.
