When I publish a level with an mp3 file for background music,
it works on another computer, a brand new laptop.

When I publish the same level with an Ogg file for
music, there is no sound.

In both instances I have used the BIND command for
the music files and for the ogg.exe file.
All of which are in the work folder.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you've fully understood how ogg works. You can play ogg as a sound or as a media stream. When playing ogg as a sound you can use the engines own ogg player. But when playing it as a media stream, you must install an ogg media player on the target system. You can get one from www.vorbis.org. In no case you must BIND some ogg.exe.

That's what I expected. That makes it pretty useless
for a published game unless you include an
ogg player install with the zip file.

Why doesn't the engine have an inherent ogg media player?

But checking the manual in reference to that:

Quote:

Media_Play ....All files playable with the windows media player can be used with this instruction - .avi, .mpg, .wmv, .wma, .wav, .mid, .mp3, .ogg and so on, even some still image formats like .bmp or .jpg..

and

Quote:

For playing .ogg files, an installer for Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filters (oggds0994.exe) is included. Install them by starting the exe.

Nothing there about needing a player on the target machine.

I dont see why it isnt working , but you shouldnt need to install any ogg player on any computer , all you need is the OggDS0994.exe thats included in your gamestudio installation. Now , you DO however have to install the codec on each machine that will play the ogg files , this might sound like a pain but it really isnt , as there is Install makers that allow you to run an external program during the game installation , so you can make the ogg codec installation be a part of the game installation , so anyone who installs the game will install the codec anyway , so you shouldnt have problems with people playing the music. I am currently using the ogg format for my games and using the ogg codec install during the game install and havnt had one problem with people not hearing the music. Though I will say that i use Tripple X mp3.dll plugin to play my ogg files because I only have extra edition which can only play mid or wav. Try installing the codec on the laptop and see if that fixes your problem.

Sounds right. Thanks.

How do you make the ogg codec install part of the game install?

I use Clickteams installer.

I use CreateInstall Free , its free and its REALLY good , you can specify a ton of stuff , and add installers or programs to run with the installation.

hoja, when you go to your gstudio folder you find "OggDS0994.exe" . this can be spread with your game and even called from your installer, or from within the engine by using "exec".
