I'm very new to shaders. Every time I try to use a shader I seem to fail horribly. I've looked at other people's work and it works fine when I use it in there already build up project, but every time I try to port it over to my game, something ALWAYS goes wrong. Could someone either provide for me a stand alone "nothing but" a single shader covering a single say.. box or terrain or entity. Basiclly it can be a zip file or a peace of code pasted here that anyone could include and would work on vertually all machines. Is it possible to full include a shader within a wdl, or must i include an outside .fx file?

Please help , i'm not looking for any specific effect i'm just looking for a general how to, thanks in advance.

well, to include a shader you could do this:

material mat_shader
{
effect="
shader code here
";
}

or

material mat_shader
{
effect = <shader.fx>;
}

then assign the material to the model and off you go

BASIC programmers never die, they GOSUB and don't RETURN.

If you look at the post-processing thread with "my" shaders, those were all included in just one wdl together with the rest of my scripts for that 'game'. As long as you don't have thousands of thousands of lines of code, it'll be no problem at all. Infact, at times with other A6 version it could pose problems, but I haven't got any with the latest versions when it comes to including shaders inside my wdls. (I usually overwrite fx files accidentally ... so inside wdls has my preference.)

Cheers
