I am having some grief with a terrain. I have created a large terrain (an actual location about 5 miles by 5 miles) and made a skin from a satellite photo. It looks pretty good from a distance but I need to get down in the weeds. I am seeing hints in various tutorials etc. about assigning detail textures based on a second skin but I can't find a procedure for this anywhere in the manual or online. I would really appreciate a hand here on my first post.

I find this frustrating too. You can make a second PCX skin in Med and make it a different size than the first, and it will automatically be the detail skin, and you can use detail_size to adjust the size of it, but it doesn't solve the problem of some parts need different detail textures than others.

You could use a multitexture shader... but this isn't always best...

Thanks for that tip - when I do this though the second skin (which is much smaller) covers the whole terrain and merges with the satellite photo. I don't see any way to control the detail size as you describe. I'd be really grateful if you can tell me which menu or dialogue box to look for here.
