I've been looking around for an engine to use on my team's MMOG project. For the past year we have been looking at the kaneva game platform, but after a years time they have yet to release a stable version of the engine and I'm getting tired of waiting.

When i first wanted to make a game, it was with 3dgs that i first played with, so this is somewhat full circle for me. I'm familiar with the engine so it's a plus if i end up using it.

anyway, like I said our game is a MMOG or MMORPG( at least striving to be) and we need the ability to stream in levels of our game world without load times (just like WOW, Lineage 2, etc ) We need a seamless world, I looked over some of the magazine work (endless terrain explanation) and it made me need to ask.

Is this type of Seamless loading available in 3DGS

Available? No.
Possible? Maybe.

I say maybe because the basic level loading instruction (level_load) will basically pause the game as you load the level. So will the basic server switching instruction (session_connect).

However, you can build huge levels and the engine will automatically chunk them so you only render what you see (terrain wise). So in principle, you could make the whole world at once and by crafty serverside data flow manipulation, have a seamless world where you only see and send what your player can see.

Not easy and never been done but theoretically possible.

It's not the pourpose of this engine to be MM compatibe. If you really want to make such a game writing a network plugin is nothing compared to the other work.

Agreed. And keep in mind if you really need seamless. I would argue that you can make your game just fine with zone transitions right now. If you can't, there is something seriously wrong in your game design.

Like Blood said, this should be low on your list of priorites for making an MMOG for less than a million dollars.
