Hello to all, I'm quite new to 3DGS..
Well, I've been asking myself if making a game similar to Final Fantasy 8 or Final Fantasy 10 could be done with 3DGS?
Like the main menu, where you select items, equip weapons, summon and others such as talk to NPCs, do quests, the battle system and more..

Does it need scripts? Right?

Thank you.

yes, you'll need to learn scripting and it definately wont work if you try to do it for your first project. what you'll need to do if you want to accomplish a game like that is to spend a few years or at least 6 months making small games, getting bigger and bigger each time, DONT ATTEMPT TO JUST USE TEMPLATES, learn scripting, and some modeling and 2d art.

yeah, and a computer. woah.
of course rather high scripting skills are required, you won't get far with the template scripts. of course, there are basic wdls that can be used as a base for an inventory, player and enemy system, but it's more a start help than ready-to-use-ff 10-quality scripts.

if you want to take the RPG path, start here: http://rpg.nighthawk.dk

Thank you very much boozer.

RPG Maker XP != GameStudio, actually Lite-C/C-Script is pretty far from ruby, at least for me, I havn't bothered to learn it.. (I use events).

Didn't you listen, make a small game first, one completely irrelevant to your 'big' project. Then get it begger and so fort, etc.

good luck and so on

And just another hint The Gamestudio compiler understands Lite-C/C-script, not the actual C++. Don't go learning the wrong language

Best of luck,

But if you learn C++, learning C-Script isnīt a big problem and you are able to write dlls. On the other hand itīll take quite a lot of time.

Thracian: Yeah, I agree - learning C++ would obviously be a great help to learn C-script - as I guess any previous programming experience would also help

Thanks!

imo it's better to start off with a more complex and strict programming language, c++ is well suited if you don't bother investing loads of time into training.
