Is there a "how-to" on doing texts/dialog in games? Basically I wanted to have a window pop up with text from a character or from a PDA object.

I've tried searching past messages, but couldn't find anything. I didn't totally understand the texts part of the manual.

Thanks.

Because 3dgs was created as FPP shooter engine at first so making dialog is not his strong side.
You may try some dialog generators on 3dgs download web page. web page or try to use dll or something to write and read from ini file, or create strings with answers and questions. Dialog box... it's just a panel with buttons and some of them are invisible, so when you click the string (question/answer) you click the button whith assigned function to that string.

Never say never.

Thanks for the info. But is there a relatively easy way to just make a text box pop up on the screen when touching an object? I don't mean a two way interactive conversation, just a static text box?

a text box, no. This would need to be coded [and wouldn't be too easy]

a "predefined" string, yes. very easy...

would a string just be a line of text on the screen? that would be great. Can you point me to the right place to look for directions? I've seen "texts" referred to in the manual but wasn't sure about how to use.

Thanks.

string dStr = "You Win!!!";

text txtNameHere
{
pos_x = 200;
pos_y = 50;
//
layer = 2;
flags = visible;
string = dStr;
}

Here's a small example.

The defined string [dStr] is the line to display.
txtNameHere is the name you define for your text object.
Pos_x/y are the position on the screen to show the text;
layer is the order to sort the panel.
flags are the options you apply for the text. In this case we want it "visible".
string is where you tell it what string to show [dStr].
