I run my level in single player mode and the lighting is correct. When I use -sv -cl or -cl, server / client, or client, my ambient lighting is lost and everything is very dark, late afternoon dark, I can barely see. Run the same unchanged level with out the multiplayer parameters and everything is properly lit. I am using a TCP / IP connection over LAN. The kicker is my IPX test config does not show this problem. This occured using the Beta A5.20. I will check this again using the A5.20 Release. I told our publisher it was our advanced Daylight to nighttime feature.

Here is an update on the light change. I added a camera.fog_start = 0.8 * clip_range, and a camera.fog_end = 0.9 * clip_range to my script. This cured my ambient light problem. These values need to be set so you have reliable lighting on all systems.

So if anyone has a changing ambient light problem please give this a try.
