A improved WMP to WMB converter

Yes, static shadows could be better, and quicker to calculate.

We could have an option in the entities menu in WED that would be called "Static entitie", it means, an entitie that couldn't have any behaviour, and could produce a static shadow like any block in the map.

Wed could be more like Valve hammer editor

I think Wed could be better than he is actually... Take ideias from valve's editor.

And you should allow concave blocks.

A map problems detector like Valve Hammer

Yes, that way errors like perpendicular textures, planes too narrow and soo on would disappear.

If you look at valve hammer you see a map error checking option and corrector.

That would be very cool.

WED Scale tool is hard to use

We could have a scale tool that would only scale one face, relative to the view, like in PowerPoint when you create a square, you can resize it using the dots in front of each face.

WED Knife tool

Dont misunderstand me about these posts, i'm trying to give ideas because i see great potencial in 3DGS, i know some of them are very very difficult to implement, but its worthy.

Like Valve Hammer, Wed could have a knife tool:

Block being cutted

Both of these will be possible in A7. You'll be able to use arbitrary geometry with the new ABT scene management and the lightmapper will calculate shadows on everything (from what I understand). You'll also be able to build with concave blocks and use BSP, although BSP is being upgraded to a pro-only feature. It's a different form of BSP, though.

In regards to your other posts, edit them and press the "delete" button. This will delete them from the forum completely. The only one you won't be able to delete is the one I posted it and any other that someone else may have posted in while I typed this post (if any).

If BSP is being upgraded to pro only, what advantages does it have over ABT?

Faster rendering, especially in (well designed) indoor levels.

BSP and ABT are generally used to describe two kinds of space partitioning schemes that are used for culling and collision detection, to determine what objects should be considered for rendering/collision testing.

@ExtraCortex: It's all been said. Just know that BSP is ideal for indoor levels and ABT is better suited for exteriors. A level built using BSP takes the Map Compiler longer to build/create because it has to create portals and calculate lightmaps (and other behind-the-scenes simple tricks and nonsense). An ABT level will only require lightmap calculation; however in my experiences with the private beta it takes 10 times longer (literally) for certain levels to build when using this method than a BSP test build. However, I think the ABT build will be 5000 times faster than a BSP final build.

ABT also allows you to use any kind of geometry you desire, so there are no concave block errors. However, the new pro-only BSP is supposed to eliminate this at some point in A7. That'll be nice.

@ExtraCortex:

the release date has not been determined yet but i think they release it in 2007. You will get a free update if you bought any gamestudio version after february this year. Hope that helps.
