is there a way to make those horrible shadows entities throw to the ground not so horrible? you know, a soft shadow shader that softens the shadow on the floor and prevents it from hard clipping (from light to dark places)...

that would be so handy for everyone. i mean, we all have the same fugly shadows dont we?

i dont have sphere or anything so any help is appreciated :-)

Back to Spikes post, the only way I've seen so far is to make a copy of the base model, scale it's Z until it is flat, rotate and position same as base entity, and scale it's x & y depending on sun angles.

Then you simply apply a shader that blurs the entity (like a glow shader).

This shadowEnt can be low poly, and only needs a black textured skin (any size - doesn't matter).

This of course isn't stencil-shadows, but it's someting... lol.

Or you could buy/use sphere...

Actually it can't. He left out the soft-shadow code in the free-public-release...

You can even view the source released on the fun-byte website, the soft-shadow code wasn't included.

You can still do shadow mapping if you have pro (render to texture is required). But you might want to wait for the template shadow mapping shader to be released (A7 most likely).

If you find shaders interesting and have some experience, you could start learning about shadow mapping from the internet and implement it yourself. However, shadows are very difficult and are still an area of active research. I've implemented a simple shadow mapping shader in A6 and also found it quite hard to work around some of the quirks of the engine.

Of course, there are those of us who like the hard edged shadows. We're Noir nuts.

I'm not interested in learning shadow mapping yet. It's too slow in A6 without using a DLL...
