HI,

I am ready to buy Game Studio after working with the trial version and some tutorials. I like the program. But I have a question about documentation. I see from the order form one gets the trial version, buys the product version and must get some kind of registration key? I downloaded the reference manual from the Game Studio site, but it is not very thorough nor does it explain a lot of functions Game Studio seems to have. When I buy the full version, is there a more thorough documentation available? For example, I have no idea what "bones" are and can't find a refernce to them for the model editor. Yet they must be useful and important. How would I be able to learn about them and how to use them? Would I have to find tutorials somewhere?

Thanks. I'm used to buying stuff and getting it on a CD or in a box with a printed or PDF manual, or at least some leads to books about the product and how to use it. I figured Game Studio, with its many vast features, must have some kind of similar documentation that I just don't know about yet. It seems to be sucvh a powerful and thorough program, I am hoping to find documentation on how to understand and use the many features. Otherwise, I'll be flying blind with the program, and won't know how to use so much of it.

Any suggestions? I did see a book offered on Amazon.com, and a video tutorial as well. Should I get these?

I do not think the documentation is different for the non-Trial versions. The issue at hand is that 3D game design is a huge field and there are many things which simply cannot be covered--- like buying a powerful scientific calculator will not assure that you understand the things you can do with it. So there is a lot to learn outside of gamestudio. Fortunately the community here is really friendly and helpful. I started out with little knowledge of 3D game design, and three years later I feel very proficient relative to where I started. But you will need to read a lot... or maybe you know all that stuff and just waant to learn more about 3DGS... check out the tutorials here.. I recommend David Lancaster's Kingdom Hearts movement tutorial and the information in the AUM magazine (link up top).

All functions are covered in the manual, but not every page is listed under the contents. Try using the search fature of the help file for any terms...

The manual contains extensive information on bones. What they are and how to deal with them in MED is covered. Just search for "bones" under the search tab in the manual, and there are 2-3 major sections dealing with it.
