I just recently downloaded the latest update (6.50) for Gamestudio A6, and when I go to apply the update to my v6.40.5, I recieve the following error:

NewFilesCount not equal to files replaced!

<OK>

Can't update
Err. #51
Can't write file

I have recieved errors like this before, because some of the files were write-protected... which meant I had to go though, find each file that was, and take write-protection off. However, I have already done that, and I still recieve the error. Any tricks to fix this problem?

Thank you,
Regards

Can't fix this particular problem but make sure you have version 6.6 and not 6.5. That version has a couple of "showstopper" bugs and was pulled. See bugs section at top or bottom of page for info.

Perhaps you should completely uninstall A6 (including deleting the folder but make sure you backup any work before doing that) and then reinstall and see what happens after applying 6.6.

Uninstalling won't fix this sort of problem. 6.50 is not supported anymore; but for 6.60 read the installation instructions about how to avoid such installation woes. Usually this problem is caused either by a read-only file or by having no access rights to a certain file.

Ok, well I just got the latest update (6.60), and the same error occures. It updated fine from the demo version to 6.40.5, but for some reason it dosent like 6.60. In the past, when the problem has been a read-only file, it has said something like:

Cant write file.xxx, read-only!

Anyways, maybe ill just try redownloading the update, because uninstalling and re-updating didnt do anything. If anyone has a quick fix, would appreciate it. BTW, I did read the instructions, and none of it seemed to pertain to this specific error. Thanks anyways.

Regards

There is still a file that can't be overwritten. Try the following hints from the installation instructions:

"There can be several reasons why a file in the Gamestudio folder is not accessible. Maybe WED or MED or another file was still running or still open, or a file or folder was set to system, read/only, or to restricted access. That file was not updated in that case. For updating you need to log in with administrative rights in a Window 2000, ME or XP system. Set the write protection property of your whole Gamestudio folder to 'Not Write Protected'. Make sure that all files are closed and accessible, and update again. You can repeat the update process as often as you want. If in doubt, the following method should help: set the read/only attribute of all files in the installation folder, and then set it back again for all files."

Ok, well I redownloaded the demo and update file... and now it works fine. Whatever the problem was, it is gone now. Thank you all who helped out.
