it actually is harder for english people to learn german then it is for us to learn english. French normaly also goes pretty well with the germans.
But I´m having trouble with it also learing Latin is a tough thing
Every English or American has my respect if he tries to learn german.
Because its a tough language even germans have problems with the german language

Thanks. You have just motivated me a bit more into learning German.

Even if upto the point where I can understand some of it. At least then I will be able to get the gist of posts and certain other aspects. Not only in here but also on other programming sites as well.

Source forge etc..

Heh, I was taught a few words in Asian and Italian where I used to work. Bummer that they where only common swear words though lol.

We were tought more of the structure of the language, not a large vocabulary, so alot of the words here are unfamiliar to me ...

The real pain in the as* is using the proper variation while speaking but writing it with the correct termination
The datief, the accusative and genitif is what I'm talking about here but without them, German wouldn't just be German enough

Cheers

It's funny though, Over here in Australia our english language spelling is slowly changing to be more and more like the American and maybe England?. eg: Would be the spelling of color, The original spelling was colour. There are proberly more but I can't think of them. Just goes to show, How multi cultrul countries change over the years.

mate, no aussie i know spells colour without the "u"

though, way too many pronounce the later "z" wrong.

i've seen pronunciation changes towards american, but never spelling. and we can't be changing to english spelling coz that's how it originally was in the first place (perhaps i misunderstood there).

That depends on where you live in OZ, Where you did your schooling etc. I've recieved legal, Goverment etc docs that do contain American spelling.

I studied both French and German in college a long time ago. The French vocabulary stuck with me, probably because about half of the English words are from French. But the German vocabulary went bye bye and I have to use Babelfish.

But in comparing the two, German is much easier to speak and pronounce because words are exactly what they appear. But it's the sentence structure in German that makes it hard, IMO. And the sentence structure doesn't lend itself to computer translation.

Maybe someone will devise translation software that reorganizes the sentences as well as the words. Maybe someone already has...

As to American and English spelling, I find myself shortening all those ridiculous spellings from old Welsh like thought, rough, etc. It's only a matter of time before English becomes CyberEnglish with the spelling based on phonemes.

In this forum I admire the quality of English displayed by most of the European posters. Apparently the schools there do a better job of teaching English grammar and spelling than American schools.
