...but Blender is almost impossible to get used to if you already know what you are doing and learned via "normal" programs like Wings3D, Hexagon, 3DS MAX, Softimage|XSI, Maya, TrueSpace....er, ok, so TrueSpace isn't all *that* normal....but still...

Silo 2 is worth every penny, many people from university have swapped from maya and lightwave to Silo 2 for modelling as it is just so much faster and intuitive compared to the other modelling packages.
Blender I found, is terrible to use as the GUI is a mess and things take much longer in the workflow because of this.

*Bump*

Go here and scroll down to get a link to a user made video showing the new UV tools of the upcoming version 2.1 (which will probably be in public beta soon):
http://www.danielelliott.co.uk/

Looking very nice and imo this kinda completes Silo's featureset making it top notch especially for modelling for games even for those with a small budget for software... smile

EDIT:
BTW @ mods:
This topic should be moved into the "Tools" section as it's not about 3DGS... wink

Enjoy your meal

silo 2 has been out for a while. I have been using maya for like 7-8 years now, I only recently bought silo 2 and I really like it.

It has a different look to its subdivisions which make it perfect for very specific geometry. If I get time later I might(low possibilty) post some images on the differences between subdivisions made with maya and silo 2.

The short story uis that for me personally, silo 2 has a nurbs-like appearence which creates a nice mesh for machined-curved geometry whereas I have a more organic look with maya.

So to conclude I think silo 2 is very good for very specific purposes.

Or the other way round the probably last program-wise reason not to choose Silo is getting erased... wink

Yeah - that's what I meant when I said it imo is superior "program-wise"... wink

Wings3D is a nice tool (used it myself but kinda discarded it in that phase where the developer abandoned it for quite a while) but I'm willingly paying for something that makes work a bit more fast and comfortable and I think Silo has a pretty reasonable price and is plain great for modelling as it's highly intuitive and powerful at the same time...

Not that I want to do big advertisements here but just go and download the trial version (you don't have to register or something for that) and give it a try. When I did I just didn't want to use something else anymore. Well until I find something better... ^^

Enjoy your meal
