When I create a 3D model in a 3D modeler such as AC3D, Blender, and Milkshape, export 3D model, and import 3D model into MED, which 3D model file format is best? MED can import 3D models from *.3DS, *.X, and *.ASE files.

The best format is the format that works best for you.

If you want to transfer animations then FBX would be the best (only in A7 available). For static models you should try. It also depends on the export quality of your modeller. Look how it transfers uv-maps and texture. Check the mesh. Sometimes it gets unwelded after transfering.

So it depends on your Gamestudio version and on the modelling tool.

If you use Blender, then you can export directly to mdl7

With MED and various 3d-tools I had with 3ds the best experiences and only a few problems.

Even if you haven't got A7 you can use the fbx import method. You just download the free LiteC MED and then save it as mdl to use it in your A6 project

Since Blender is the only 3D modeler that can export 3D models to Game Studio's MDL7 files, I have been trying to learn how to use Blender but I had problems with creating materials for 3D models that show up correctly in WED. In Blender's UV/Image Editor, how can I rotate the image 90 degrees?

Can't you just rotate the image in your painting program?

fragMotion will export directly to every 3DGS format ever created and FBX will probably be included in the next release.

fragMOTION is a powerful 3D modeler specifically intended for the creation and animation of characters. fragMOTION is intuitive and easy to use and contains many features that are only found in top of the line modelers. And if that's not enough for you, the event driven scripting system makes it a breeze for you to add your own features.

FBX and Collada are the hot formats right now!

FBX is better supported, Collada is super flexible but not really available in enough applications yet. But whatever works! I do almost everything with the crusty old wavefront .obj because it's so darn trusty and universal. A lot of people feel the same about .3ds.

I think that I got the materials to show up correctly in WED.

In Blender:

1. Create 3D models using inches as units.
2. Create materials for 3D models.
3. Divide the single view into two views.
4. Call up UV/Image Editor window on one view.
5. Call up UV Face Select mode on other view and enable textured shading mode.
6. Select faces to be UV mapped.
7. After loading image files into UV/Image Editor, choose desired image.
8. Call up Object Mode and make sure that 3D models are selected.
9. Save 3D models to *.blend file.
10. Export 3D models to 3D Game Studio MDL file.

In 3D Game Studio WED:

1. Create new level.
2. Load 3D models from MDL file using File, Import, Import from MDL Files. DON'T use Object, Load Entity.
3. Save level, create new level script file, and assign actions to 3D characters.

Question: How do I tile the image on 3D models in Blender?
