I've been searching for a while now, i am in the need of a maya to 3ds plugin (MEL file). Does anybody have one for me? (i can do it by exporting into milkshape and exporting from milkshape to .3ds file, but that sucks, plus i dont wanna pay for milkshape only as a converter. If anybody can help me out with that, it'd be great!

regards,

Yes... you are right. Milkshape is very expensive. If you have less money then maya is a good choice because it is free.

haha

To answer your question: Use Maya's FBX-Exporter.

lol

maya -(export as)-> fbx -(autodesk fbx tool)-> 3ds

shouldn't maya export 3ds natively?

I'd say so...
anyway, this doesnt have anything to do with 3DGS, it's for another engine im using. i succesfully exported .obj, but it doesnt support textures on that
.3ds however should...

anyway, there's no-one that has a 3ds exporter plugin for maya for me ?

obj can store textures and uv-maps as well. Because of that it is the one-and-only format that many tools use for im- and export (e.g. ZBrush). If Maya does not export UV-map in obj format then it is just Mayas fault.

If you are a registered user of Maya then you might get better answers in the public Maya forums.

obj export uses to create a separate material mtl file that stores all texture and material information. be sure to import it, too.
