yes, but that list says "carrara - animation:yes; skin:yes" which is simply not true.

I'd mention XSI, but I think you hate it already it's got pretty good fbx support though, and there is collada support thru the Crosswalk plugin (which I haven't tried yet). I've had a lot of success using it with FBX.

lightwave offers a new fbx plugin, but lightwave is around $900. carrara doesn't qualify for a competitive sidegrade ($500) which is bad
what about c4d? did they fix their fbx exporter with 10,5 or is it just as unusuable as carrara's?

what's wrong with the lw fbx? i heard only positive feedback.

i have no trouble with the blender exporter. i am having trouble with blender in general. i'm not against the blender idea or open source (i'm usin linux right now), but skinning and animating in blender is somewhat difficult compared to c4d which i used before, and i am neither willing to get into a whole new program that changes every half of a year (i was able to skin an texture with blender 2.2, with 2.4 i'm not even getting to work the unwrap part) nor do i have the time to, as blender is not the most intuitive program for 3d character animation . so the easiest would be to buy a new c4d version, but it's rather pricey and i searched for alternatives.
i found carrara which was "cheap enough", but the fbx is terrible and practically unusuable, so is their *.x exporter, so i'm possibly giving back my licenses.

ello tested the c4d fbx for me, and told me that it works now, so this is really great news. i'll probably go with c4d then, but i'll first have a look at lightwave.

but i have still an open ear for alternatives.

I've asked DAZ yesterday will they improve the fbx exporter
in the near future and waiting for reply.

I heard about modo 301 also have fbx exporter, I want to give
it a try but you've to pay $25 for the 30 days demo version,
too bad. If anyone have tried modo301 fbx exporter please let
me know. Thanks.

yes, i wrote them an email, too. no reply yet.

so far, lightwave was the only tool that produced a fbx that could be converted to a collada file. i think i will get a sidegrade for lw.
