Hey guys its been a while. As some of you know I was working on a BIG game. Well, I have just lost the passion for it. The way I wanted the game to play.....well how should I put this? I have been making the game for about a year now. All of a sudden, Square-Enix comes out with their new FF13 video. Almost 80% of the things that were shown in the video were things that were going to be core gameplay aspects.... Here is the video...

EVEN THE CHARACTER LOOKS LIKE WHAT I VISIONED. Now im sad.......Should I just continue what I am doing and make the game, or should I start on a new project?

step 1: finish your game
step 2: modify and continue your game
step 3: finish your game
step 4: maybe get back to step 2 or just leave it as-is

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys. I don't know what I was thinking. Now that I think about it, if I were to make something great then it could attract more people to the 3DGS world...

it's amazing how many times i think of ideas (even little ones) only to see a fresh new game advertised that features those ideas, or even revolves around it. not like it happens all the time, but it has happened quite a few times. lucky for me they hadn't gone past the point of ideas.

from that video, all i see is a virtually invincible psycho guy who just flits around killing would-be killers. that's all the video gives, and it isn't like it hasn't been done before. your game will be for PC. it has much more potential in the control scheme (theoretically, but many devs put too little thought into how their controls will work). your game won't be displaced by FF13, and as you said, we love seeing good projects come out of 3DGS.

what about chosing a genre that doesn't feature psychos, machine guns, dragons, dungeons, cars or women? be creative... superhero games don't differ much, the setting does, ok, but that's it. there isn't much "new" potential in this, only on the art/graphic side. the quality shown on the vid will never be achieved by a one man show, so i abandonned the thought of creating such game years ago.
