Purchased a Scythe Infinity for my Q6600 because the standard cooler has these plastic pins which have to be pressed inside the mobo and I not really like the way it's mounted, looks abit weak.

So I found this website, but he talks about "The liquid metal TIM", but its not clear to me? What kind of stuff is TIM? Do I need to apply the cooler pasta afterwards, or will using TIM be enough? Could TIM cause damage the CPU and does it needs to be cleaned/re-applied after some months?

I guess TIM stands for "Thermal interface material"

It's not only weak, but it's likely unable to cool your processor good enough. The Q6600 can get quite hot before you get into trouble, but if you want to overclock for example then totally forget about the stock cooler, it's by far not good enough. The Scynthe is good though,

Cheers

Ok for a moment I thought TIM was a special product, when I look on google before posting someone talked about it being some kind of mercury like material. Now I understand it's just the pasta that one must smear on the cpu. And yes i'm going to OC the cpu a little bit, but only to 3Ghz ^^
