If anyone has gotten the new A5 to work around a router please say so, so I know I'm not wasting my time...

Update: I had my router forward ports 2300 through 2400 to the appropriate IP address to my machine behind the router, had my friends do the same on their end, no dice yet.

I just got a packet sniffer. Let's see what that shows.

New Update: Upgraded the firmware on my router, there was no default DMZ allowed. Now there is and I just had a buddy in there with me, driving our tanks around - both of us through routers.

I should point out that there is much less lag with 5.51 through a router, then 5.2x and no routers (I used to have to unplug mine and reset everything to test this thing with my buddies).

SO! 2 thumbs up to Conitec! I think I can make a playable network game now!

Just need to polish things up, the turning is jerky but I know that's from my scripting, not the engine.

Interesting, good to hear. I'm running through a router but I haven't played with the network code for A5 yet.

Just to finish this up:

It was the DMZ pointing to my machine that made the difference. Port forwarding 2300 - 2400 to my machine wasn't enouugh. Those are the ports used to play the game alright, but to begin the game acknex uses other ports to establish the connection (according to my packet sniffer).

I was running 2 instances of acknex, one server (-cl) and one client (-cl). I'm using a dedicated server now, no more -sv -cl.

Because I haven't put my chat back in, we were using AIM to communicate. Both of us were alt-tabbing back and forth and acknex was rock solid throughout the entire session.

This friend didn't use any special port forwarding this time. You don't need to do that to be the client, only the server has to make router changes.

Just a question, what kind of router are you using, kinda curious, that kind of stuff tends to catch my eye. [Wink]

Hello,
I noticed this discussion on routers having to do with clients connected to servers and was wondering if anyone reading here would have an idea about a problem I posted under the heading of Multiplayer Issues....

Please check out my posting there and let me know if you have any ideas about this problem. I am wondering if it might be related to the router.

Thanks,
Cicada
