I'm looking for a shader that can replicate the effect seen in Halo (thread in User requests) where an actual transparency is rendered but without the X-Ray aspect of common transparencies.
This effect is ideal for the cloaking effect for what I hope to use it for.
This should do the job. Create a nice normalmap, apply the shader to your model and you should be set. (That is if your 3dgs version has the render to texture feature, look for the rtt dll if you "only" own A6 Com)
plus you could try different blend states for the brighting

Ok cool, not clued up about shaders at all yet so maybe I should go back to that one (refraction) and see what I can get going. Thanks guys, much appreciated.
im trying to use the refraction shader and it just gives me a black screen. i have the r2t dll its plugged in properly (because i can use real time water reflections) so whats wrong.
