nice for the first drawing. you might want to make a little better resolution of grass itself.

overall that the dark tone is above instead of the bottom makes it look wrong

always take refrences when you do something.

example here:
http://www.inkycircus.com/jargon/images/grass_by_conformity.jpg

the colors there are More natural and the dark tones are on the bottom of the whole grass. Also every grasspalm is seeable. yours is pretty blury for now.

It looks decent but if you want some great grass i would try to make it more like in reallife, simply try to get as much refrences as you can and look at them while working.

how grass should look:
http://www.alsbonsai.com/john/GrassShadows.wmv

yours is too fat in terms of the leaves, too bushy, too uniform, too "green" (no real structure, just a green carpet).

For a first try this isn't bad at all but like broozar mentioned, it's to monotone Keep experimentating, you'll get there just like you did with your weapon models !! Btw, watch out for z-sorting errors when using sprites

Cheers

Is it transparent?

I'd use less thick grass"shafts" but make them totally opaque.
