USA BASS Sales hit 48,248 12-31-03

Hi Guys,

USA Bass sales hit 48,258 - Actual sales were Actual Sales 51,676 minus returns of 3476.

So I missed the 50,000 units sold through mark. Hopefully I will break it this quarter.

My other game Veggie Tales Creativity City has sold through 34,619 units.

Totals sales for my two games I did last year is 82,877.

Not bad for this ole Indie Hippie.

Check Out valusofts web page www.valusoft.com USA Bass is on the front Page.

Ken

Going off from forum feedback, and other info from people I have talked to, it would probably be better off having a chat session acrossed IRC...

Most of the admission fees make it cost prohibative for a lot of 3DGS users - not to mention flying out and getting a hotel room for the conference. IRC is cheap (free), and would allow for anyone, anywhere to gain access (just need an IRC client).

Might not be a bad idea you know...

I've tried this. I submitted a proposal to the GDC this year re: my virtual online lab project. It was summaraly rejected.

A group submitted a 3dgs game to the GDC IGF. It didn't make it into the competition.

So far, my impression from attending the GDC for the past 3 years and using 3DGS for the last year is that they are really warm to the middleware solutions that are present at the conference. Hence, torque and quaxal and havok and others who present get plenty of recognition in the talks and workshops. My take is that having never seen 3dgs there in an official capacity (either as floor space or a side booth), any 3dgs project will have to work all that harder to get in and any purely 3dgs related topics won't get in.

I don't have the experience you profess Nard, so perhaps you have something the GDC wants to hear, but from my experience, no one at the GDC is warm to 3DGS and hence any submissions based on it might be summaraly rejected.

For these reasons and more, WHY ISN'T 3DGS OFFICIALLY AT THE GDC??? I mean cmon guys, this is where it's at, right next door to san diego, and yet I never see you there:( .ever moneys it takes to set up a booth (couple grand maybe?) is money well spent in advertising. Torque is there. So is DarkBasic. Think about it.

I think Ken should write one of those in-depth, multi-part articles that Gamasutra loves to publish (hint, hint)

Hi Doug,

I did submit a proposal for a strategy for making value line games. 3DGS certianally a part of my outline. Maybe now with some sales success they may be more interested.

The new publishing company I am working with would like to keep that information closely held for now.

I will still answer questions here on the forum.

Try not to ask game finance questions, that is something that I need to keep private.

Ken

Florain and I made an agreement.

Joe was paid cash as a contract artist on the project.

I do not think an offer to share in future revenues is a good idea. Since so few games get to that point. It's best to have the person charge what they are willing take in exchange for their work.

You need to bring this up with JCL. I'm there every year but only as a paying guest.

Lets stay on-topic, post any follow up in another thread.

Sorry for the digression...I've just always wondered where you guys where and sick of seeing only Torque and DB there...
As the GDC comes closer, I think I will start a thread on it. The GDC is something EVERYONE here should know about even if they can't attend.

Just wanted you to know that I have seen USA Bass on the shelves of my local Wal-Mart for 6 months now. I have known for a while that it was built with 3DGS but had no other knowledge of it. I have been following this thread and tonight I couldn't help it.... I do not fish, I do not like fishing, I really don't like fishing games but I walked by the electronics department and decided I would do my part and support a 3DGS developed game.

I think one of the nice features of this game is the fact that I can view under water and see the fish swiming around looking at my bait!

This game starts up with "A6 Prerelease version" was this something that Conitec did for you since they were about to release A6 and you had landed this publishing deal?

Congrats on the deal! Hope you enjoy my $9.22 (minus packaging...$5.00) (minus publisher... $3.00) (minus wal-mart's cut...$0.50) Wouldn't you be happier if you kept the entire $9.00!!!!! Wooo I know I would!

Hi Virtual_User,

I am glad you liked the game. Thanks for the 50 cents.

I needed to use A6's Direct X clipping, A6 was not released yet. - In options select DX Clipping to on.

The triangles on the terrian where so big that I was getting clipping problems. JCL helped me with a prerelase of A6 so I could offer that feature in the game.

I do not think I got special treatment from JCL, I think JCL and his team are very customer focused and try to help all their customers equally.

Ken
