USA Bass Sales Hit 66,375.

Hi Gang,

I just got my royalty statement from Valusoft.

Total sales of USA Bass to date is 69,988, total returns is 3613. Leaving total sales through the channel of 66,375 units.

My other 2003 title Veggie Tales Creativity City has sold through 40,661 units.

I am in discussions for a sequel to USA Bass right now. I am trying to decide between 3DGS and Cipher as the engine to use for the sequel. They both have their plus's and minus's, the great thing is both engines are capable of doing the job.

I have a total of over 107,000 units sold of my 2003 developments as an Indie.

I am working hard to get the 2004 products out before XMAS.

Ken

Hi,
would you tell us your own reason for choosing Cypher for your next games?
That would be an interesting read I think

Cheers

Hey, Nardulus can you explain or show what you mean with 'melting shadows' ? I don't seem to have any problems with shadows... Just being curious..

Cheers

a6 shadows still use the old a5 software clipping. if a shadow triangle is too big and the camera gets near you will get ugly distortions...

Vent hit the nail on the head.

Level geometery shadows are OK. Models that cast shadows cause alot of problem's for my style of games in A6.

3DGS is a great tool and my publisher wants me to stick with it for USA Bass 2.

What I like about Cipher is this.

1) The render quality to my eye is better. Right Now.
2) I like the shader support in Cipher. It's less flexible but it is simplier to use and it runs on both ATI and NVidia with no problem.
3) Models casting shadows support is more to my taste.
4) C Code. I like using Codeview to debug my games.
It's great to use structures, and multi dimesional arrays, and string arrays.
Case statements, For Loops, local and global variables that do not get confused, my use of local varibales in C Script regularly got messed up with globals. Using the Codeplay compiler for tighter exe code.
5) Importing models from MAX is smoother for me.
6) You do not have that long build time in WED for levels.

Cipher is not an engine for a newbie or someone that does not know how to build a C program.

Each tool has its place. 3DGS is a tool I use along with Cipher. It depends on the need at the time.

THanks for your observations...
I thought you were coding in C++....
I guess you made those 3DGS games in C-Script then?

Good work
Cheers
