Glider - GamesConvetion Demo

Hi

after ~t years of development here is a public preview version of our game "glider collect'n kill". The multiplayer and singleplay mode is completly functional.

At the beginnig we're post this thing only here on the gs board before it's going public within the next days.

I played the game for some time now and i must say that it's fun. It even gives you some adrenaline kicks, as you have to get the balls before your opponents get them. Sometimes i even got the feeling i was playing Quake 3 Arena (which is good ) ... really nice.

things i don't like:
- the hit sound is taken from Quake 3 Arena... i would change that. You could get problems with ID software
- a pure dedicated server would be great. I actually have a fast rootserver and I would like to host a dedicated server.
- singleplayer is to easy in my eyes ("b0unce can win" is way to easy, "action or what?" is good for beginners, "botlike" is ok for pre-medium. you should add at least one or two more difficulties )
- that's it

Conclusion:
- Graphics aren't spectacular but they fit.
- Gameplay is great!
=> It is fun to play and i will definately play some more multiplayer games.(again, dedicated server software would be cool )

In the menu, shouldnt the bit depth be 16 and 32 bit, and not 24 and 15??

Great game! Really intense, and very fun to play!

But I think you should make a dedicated server version and make it easier for players to connect these servers. That would make online play much easier for the regular gamer, and since that is the core of the game it is important to get online fast! Maybe also make some harder levels, "God-like" for example.

Apart from that; great game!

For the game play / HUD:

I think the Circles around the Targets in the HUD
(Zielkreise)
Should be less transparent and have a harder edge:

It is hard to diferenciate them from all other effects
on the view.
This would make it easyer for the player to find a
target from the distance.

And A healthbar on these Circles, showing the health
of the target would be nice, to see what effect
the shots make. (like in X2)

Also the players own health sould have a less transparent
displays. Maybe an additional red healthbar, since
reading a number take a few millisecons longer than
evaluating a healthbar.

Great gameplay.
If I shoot into the sky the fires stop at an invisible sky wall. I feel like in a landscape prison.
I don't see a suitable internet lobby.
On LAN the clients are ruckling.
I tried one time a multiplayer session and the client maschine crashed after 10 minutes. On the server side the fps decreased to a very low value.


Don't take the cake to the party.

I downloaded this cool game, and i like it so much. But the textures can be i a bit better. The mountans more than the other objects. But anyway, it is a cool game.

I was using a router, now I'm back again at my own place, with internet which doesn't have a router and instead has 100Mb/s , if anyone wishes to test or try again, just PM me...
How do I open this port, in case it's needed?

for winows firewall go to control panel> firewall go to exception and got o add port and enter the port number.. or go to add program an det it figure it out for you.. but sometimes add program doesnt work good..

im at 18% of download... i hope this is good.. been waiting for loooooong time

after playing it for a few hours my points would be this:

plus points first of course
+ runs solid and fast
+ level is not to big so you are in a permanent fight situation and dont have to wait till you respawn half an hour
+ textures fit well together and the effects like shots, water and explosions look nice
+ the falling gliders look good when they hit the ground
+ enemies are quite good and motivating as bots.... they are fast and can hit you hard (though one more harder level of bots would be great)
+ the gameplay is fun and fast (though i think you should build out the balls collection thing out a bit.....maybe by getting not only points but extra goodies for the ammount of balls)
+ the ball chain and the physique are good...maybe just add some more spectacular look to them...plain balls is a little bit boring and also makes not much sense


the negative points now:
- most negative and most important is the movement. It does not feel like a glider or any hoovering vehicle. Its more or less the template movement and it hits the game very bad.
My oppinion is that if you create a glider game you need good movement physics. Also some nice shaking when bullet impacts or explosions would be a nice side effect.
Yager had a excellent movement or maybe even take comanche as a reference. So far the gliders fly like a moving guard model. If anything needs work my personal oppinion is that this would be the main point.
- while the size of the level is good they look dead. I dont think even the trees waved in the wind. A good ammount of active things would make it way more alive. even it its just the bad ole crane working in the background.
- you know that the level ends after the hmp...not that big issue and different shaped arenas help out a lot (dunno what is planed).
- shots and decals...while ther is a lot action going on i am missing a change of the environment. You have a collapsing bridge but that should only be the start. Would be a lot better if after the fight the battlefield would look like a battlefield
- menue..... very hard to read if screenrez is bigger then 1600 (talking about the starter). Having to quite a session without a play again option???


Overall i think its a very good game concept that could kick ass if some points would get cleaned up.

I am looking forward for more.

my honest conclusion right now: i wouldnt buy it yet. The missing flight physiques is way to important for me to ignore it. (hope you dont take it personal but as an honest ment input)
