Nysho and the Attack of the Boons - Shiny update..

Hey,

So some of you might remember playing a demo for my game Nysho and the Attack of the Boons a while back. You can still find the thread if you search. Anyway, new university commitments meant it was unintentionally backbenched for a while but recently I'm picked it up with the intention of finishing it.

I'm in that "last 10%" stage where it's just refining and tail ends to tie up left. My to do list is pretty short, level design is done and the core code is as it should be. Anyway, I thought I'd post some new screenshots so you can see how it's going. The main difference is the new shading, an often suggested feature.

Comments and crits are deffinately welcome, always great motivation!

FYI - The game is currently publisherless. I intend to approach retail publishers first, seeing a game of mine on a shelf is a dream. I'm not going to approach them however without having a complete product that I'm happy with. After that I'd be looking to approach the casual/shareware download sites.

very cool! although the overal quality of the textures/models seems to be not very professional (sorry for that) it all fits great together!!!

think about using a toon shader - this would improve your style!

the dog? or what this is looks a bit stiff. try making him more relaxed.

anyways keep up the good work, i like it.

Heh the shader is already in there, apologies if you can't see it thanks to jped mud.

Please keep the comments coming, or encouragement! I think I'll post a video, the games look is far easier to appreciate in motion.

Nive work creating a cartoony look there Lost.
The only thing what I misted when I was looking at the pics
were some shadows, it just needs some more shadows.

But overall nice job

Very cool

you could use some BLoom with Silex plugin to homogenise the overall look of your game and make it looking more marvellous, and bloom will make look great
and hide the simplicity of your models.

And great style for your gale.

And you can watch Zelda Windwalker screenshots to inspire yourself for textures
and effects

nice cartoonish look there Bu the textures should have bit more details, so they give the "material" out better.

@PennyWise, Frazzle - Thanks! I've been trying to nail a unique cartoon style since the beginning, means a lot that you like it.

@TheExpert - A bloom effect was looked into. The decision was made not to include in order to keep hardware requirements lower. My target market isn't known for having beasty computers

@Inestical - Thanks, check out the video and see if I can't change your mind. The simplicity of the textures is 100% intended but thanks for your crit!

Speaking of a video, heres one I've cobbled together. It's no trailer, just a peak, much better than screenshots!

Just make a Menü with the option to deactivate the toonshader. And for bloom, just make two batch (.bat) files and start the game with -bloom or somewhat and write all bloom-scriptthings into "ifdef bloom; <> endif;"

ps. game looks really good, but a bit detailless

Just thought I'd update you all on progress.

I've now got a musician working away. He's made contributions to the community and the stuff hes turning into me is excellant. Harley_potter be his name.

That and xxxGuitar511 is doing the boss battle programming. That and the very last of the a5 template scripts are being ripped out. They were used at a time where I didn't know better .

The new machinama-style cutscenes are almost done. A friend of mine is going to narrate and another will do the BoonMaster lines.

After these things I've got a finished product . I'm rounding up contacts and researching publishers with every bit of me crossed. Wish me luck!
