Daemonica

Hi guys!

Initially, we wanted to make this announcement when our game was available in both english and german language (which should hopefully happen in a couple of days) and kind of surprise the A6 community. But now it seems that some of you damn good detectives ( namely Orange Brat and Wormhole ) beat us to it, so there's no use in remaining silent

Few days ago our game Daemonica hit the US shelves and if things go right, it will happen also in couple of days in Germany. Although the game is usually by its looks mistaken for an rpg believe me when I say that it's actualy an adventure

It has already been published in some other european countries as well - Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Italy. The majority of the reviews there were really good (with the rating varying from 60% to 80%).

There are also some early reviews available in the US (some can be found at this link ) .

There is a demo available for the game that can be downloaded at our US publisher's website - Meridian4 (you have to be from the USA/Canada i believe) and at some other sites ( Softpedia etc. - those are not restricted in any way)

If you're interested, give it a try and if you like it, be so kind and rate it at any major gaming site (gamerankings.com, gamespot.com etc.) As much as we are pleased by the reviews, what we are really interested in is how the players like it.

( ... and if you like it a lot - buy the game and support us - you will have our eternal gratitude! )

And now for the most important part of this long, long post:

This would never be possible without the A6 engine. Thanks go to all the Conitec guys - JCL, Doug, Marco and others. Great job!!

The same goes for the wonderful A6 community. There are so many of you that made our work easier by your contributions to the community! It's impossible to name you all so just a few:

TripleX, Ventilator, Steempipe, Orange Brat, George, ello, Matt ... etc. etc.

Thanks guys, I owe you one!

A note for the GERMAN SPEAKING PLAYERS: a localized german version (with german voiceovers) should be coming out probably in couple of days. It is published by Frogster Interactive AG and the localization is (in my opinion) really great...

Hi guys,

thank you for your kind words!

I finaly get to answer your questions:

- the only shader that we use is a very simple one for the water.

- the terrain consists of several aligned uv mapped models

- what you see on the ground is really in the texture - no shaders, no dynamic shadows (except for the characters), no rendering to texture

- Daemonica was being developed slightly over one year

- in the development process we used even some expensive software (namely Maya, because we already had the licence then) but all we did is surely possible even with some less expensive tools (or even free GNU software such as Gimp for 2D etc.)

- I wrote the story, dialogues and scripted the game
@frazzle: later in the game it's less dialogs and more things "happening". Believe me. I know. Whether the game will sell or not - we'll see. The reviews I've found so far look promising though:

Game Zone 79%
BonusStage 84%
AmpedIGO 70%
Engamic 75%
GameHacking 80%
etc.

So, again, thank you all!

T.

EDIT:

This is one of the games which shows that it is possible with 3DGS to develop a commercial title

Who said it wasn't possible? If I am not mistaken, Nardulus has sold over 100,000 units of his game some time ago (I believe it can be found on this forum) which is absolutely fantastic! Now, if 100,000 sold units doesn't qualify A6 as being an engine good enough to produce commercial titles, then I don't know what does...

thanks for the explaination templar, the shadow of the trees is in the groundtexture of the terrain? or how have you done that?

all in all i think this game will sell, its very very moody and shows that a game doesnt need the newest shader or graphics but a good feeling where you can get lost/dream and a good story.

you did what everyone here is dreaming of, be proud of yourself and keep on going!

i like it a lot , and graphics are great.
Pro quality indeed.

It's screen shots should be in 3DGS Web site page to show that if you are talented A6 can do the job very well

Is there a demo ?

It is too bad the demo is soo large, I have been downloading for 12 hours, and it still isnt done . The pictures are very nice, the textures are done beautifully... all in all a very professional-looking game. I am very anxious to play the demo, maybe someday I will get cable .

Here Rad_Daddy, use this link to another demo of
Daemonica.
It's a German site so I hope you know the language a bit

http://www.4players.de/4players.php/download_info/PC-CDROM/Download/45204.html

I'm sure this one doesn't take 12h.

The way you did your demo is not a good idea. It takes forever to download it, and can only play for 60 mins. You should have limited it to about 50-100mb so people can enjoy the demo and long as they want, this 400 mb repels people who want to try the demo.

I do not solve problems.... I prevent them.

It is this marketing Idea of downloading the game,
playing it, and if you want, purchase and activate it right away.
(it is the inactive full version i guess)

I would have liked a demo without timelimit too....

I think Hellcrypt is right there,
a 400 mb download for a demo is much but it
was the only site I had visited to get the demo
The downloading part from the site I gave
wasn't that bad, 15 min I thought.
But in another way is Damocles right to,
it's just a marketing trick to make
it more attractive to the user

Sorry, frazzle, but I am on dial-up. A highspeed server isnt going to do much for me. Thank you, though, for the link, it is faster than what I was previously using. Anyways, I will give a better review after I have played the demo.
