Onyx Engin3 (tm)

Hello. This is a screenshot taken from a early test of my upcoming shader engine: 'Onyx Engin3' (tm). Onyx adds several state of the art rendering techniques found in such high end rendering software as 3ds max and Maya. Onyx will be free with all versions of Gamestudio except for use in published products. This image is about 6 months old, at this time i would not like to release recent images as to protect the engine's unique structure. Onyx Engin3 (tm) will also feature per-pixel realtime shader effects allowing individual pixels to have unique qualities. I will release more features in the near future. -Foxfire, Onyx Software-
Note: some models/textures are from public domain and are now receiving credit.
Onyx,Onyx Engin3,Engin3, and the Onyx logo are trade marks of Onyx Software.

It is meant for GameStudio, this is why people says it sounds tusc.

Actually you can mix DirectX 9 and 10 if you take out all DX9 render specific stuff and replace it with a DX10 external engine. Seems like a huge task though.

Yes, you will be able to run the Directx10 shaders with Gamestudio.

And yes, it is a HUGE task, that is why it will take some time.

The question that remains for me and (I think) a few others is WHY you decided to make it axcusively DX10 when a lot of people here don't have and want Vista.

Don't want to be the nerd "who knows it better", but I wanna correct some terms in your postings (don't wanna be offending - just to make things more clear ;\) )

The "Depth of Field Shadow" and "Area Shadows" are different concepts of 3D Rendering Software Packages (like 3ds max, which I use).

What you mean with those "DOF Shadows" are in fact "Area Shadows" - in reality a Shadow (even with a high contrast lightsource like our sun) is blurring out as it spreads more and more away from the shadow casting object. This is a cool but render expensive effect (which can be faked with some shadowmap grid in 3ds max; or real Area Shadows used by raytracing algorythms) - if it runs pretty fast with your system, then it's worth a try. \:\)

Depth of Field Shadows or "blurry shadows" are shadows which are blurred through this DOF Effect in a correct manner (which they don't actually because the DOF Effect is a posteffect they need a bit more treatment). And: this relys also to reflected shadows (by metal reflections or other stuff like this) - this requieres Material ID's in 3ds max (but max is a bit weird ;\) ).

The Glitch Shader (as you call it) in 3D graphics (again 3ds max) is composed out of a texture, a procedural mixmap and another texture (or procedural map... or a procedural map mixed with textures or procedurals mixed with procedurals and then mixed with textures a.s.o.). It's actually called a "dirt map" - which is not the same like a detailmap.

Those are the concepts of 3d rendering as I experienced them... I pressume that you are checking the inner cores of those rendertechnologies frequently, to construct your own shader - at least this would help you a bit more, getting this tool achieved. \:\)

Greetings
Tristan

hey there..
Ive had VISTA on my comp- for MONTHs now
and i have been working on 3dgs stuff with it
and it runs VERY smoothly and NEVER crashes
I have 2 meg of RAM and that leaves me PLENTY for EVERYTHING
that VISTA does PLUS all the programs I use also.
I run cakewalk SONAR on iot also for my music and sound effects
and it too runs perfectly.
all i did was set it all up to run like XP
which takes about 1 hour....
SO....If you know what your doing around comps a bit
its really no biggy.
MOST of teh complainsts about VISTA are
rumours and innuendo...VERY few actually that have TRIED it
just people saying " my buddy tried VISTA and it ate his firstborn
ands stuff like that....the exact same gobbly-gook
we heard about XP years ago too.

Hey,
yeah i understand that some of you don't want to use Vista but im not going to leave you guys out! I will share some DirecX9 shaders soon. However, i am experimenting with the geometry shader exclusive to Dx10 and... WOW. It is just so much more powerful. Also, my goal is to provide you guys with FREE next-gen graphics, which, unfortunatley, demands the power of DirectX10.

-Also, how do you post new images in the thread? its really confusing :(-
nevermind, found it \:\)

Anyway, for those of you who don't have Vista, you are still in for some goodies.

-Michael-

I have installed Vista and tried it. There is no mistake its a resource hog. I have and Intel Dual Core 2.8 with 4 Gig ram and it left me 1.5 gig to run program with!!!! What does and OS need that much RAM for??? And why should I spend 1 hour setting it up like XP when I can install XP and guess what, it runs like XP.
