Hey,

i just downloaded gamestudio a7 yesterday.
i followed the game design tutorial on the download page. it all worked fine until i came to the part where i had to add a script.

first i added a shooter script in the WED map properties but then:


"Now that you have the base script added, the "Add Script..." option under "File" should be active. Go ahead and select this option now. You will be presented with a file dialog that looks something like this:"

i can't see "Add script" in the WED file menu. or am i looking in the wrong editor?

please help me out here \:\)

From memory, I don't use a7 at the moment:
File --> Map Properties --> opens a new window where you should find what you are looking for...

there is a new script button, wich i clicked and choose shooter from, but it said me to go to file -> add script. but it doesn't show up. if i click the open script button next to the new script button, it looks for script files instead of .WDL files as shown in the example below:

Adding the Player Script
Now that you have the base script added, the "Add Script..." option under "File" should be active. Go ahead and select this option now. You will be presented with a file dialog that looks something like this:


Select plBiped01.wdl from the list and press "Open". This will add the plBiped01 script to your project.

Yep thats wrong in the tutorial, it's not add script but "Project Manager". Select Add and then select the Biped Player (01) script in the scripts scroll box.

Hi,

I've completed the tutorial w/o any problems with a7... the thing you need to understand is that while it is A7, the tutorials are designed for A6 and in A6 importing scripts was nessesary except in A7 simply saying "shooter project" will include biped etc... if it doesn't the way you add a scipt is by adding it to your wdl file... look at your project name ex: "tut1" then go into the place your project is, you will see tut1.wdl open with sed or notepad... you will see lots of include entries then you can add your scripts of a template script just as long as they are in the same folder as tut1.wdl....

thanks for pointing that out, i can't figure out the next step in the tutorial, it says i have to select the player entity and set a behavior. but i can't see any entities in my level list?

Hi,

If you are making your own level, then to add an entity, you canno do file import mdl7 you go to Object | Load Entity...
what you add here will be called "(name)_mdl_001 the icon is a black person on a turquas plane this is the icon for an entity... right click on your new entity in 3d space, then add behavior... Thats how i did it because I did not use the future level I made my own but followed their guidelines... for my biped charactor I used guard.mdl (eventually became a charactor i modeled in 3d max) anyhow... if you do file import mdl7 it will be treated as a block not an entity and blocks cant have actions...
