These past few months I have been frequenting these hallowed forums seeking assistance, which I am pleased to say I received. In return I wanted to pass somethin back and so I have created a FREE model for anyone here who would like it. First here are a couple of screens of the Alien Critter: The model is made up from 1968 tris and includes both Diffuse and Normal maps. The model is also animated with the following 16 frame sets: Idle Walk Jump Lay Egg Fight Death You can download the zipped .MDL file ( HERE) The texture seams need a little bit of tidy up work and the model is crying out for different skins, so please post screens of anything you do, don't forget to share I hope you enjoy this model and find it useful for your non-commercial projects and I would really like to see any screenshots showing what you do with it. LEGAL BITPlease do not re-sell of otherwise distribute this model without written permission from http://www.indiglow.co.uk.

Awesome, looks really nice with the blurred stencilshadows. I am hoping someone makes use of the 'egg' animation included and gets these things spawning hatchlings all over the place @Slin: Can you point me at some threads/articles about the blurred stencils, I am looking for a good shadow solution at the mo. @aztec: I do have this model in a lower tri count version, I could probably rig it up in an hour or so, let me know if people would prefer it with less polies. Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like the model.

Here is an example code you should check out: http://www.conitec.net/beta/render_target.htmBut because it is just some basic screenspaceblurr there are also a cuple of problems, mainly the haloeffect appearing around the models. You should also combine it with a depthmap to stop things from getting more blurred in the distance. Other than that there isn´t much more information about this.

@Slin: Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware of this option at all Has anyone had a go at changing the skin yet? I think the model skin is pretty easy to change, maybe add some eyes, or turn the bulbous part of the head into some kind of eye or spitting organic weapon. @Puppeteer: Would be great to see the model with your spider script, lol could be quite scary if you get enough of them, different sizes....omg breading and eating and attacking and....and....lol

This.... uhm... thing looks absolutely awesome. Reminds me a lot of Xen from Half Life. The only thing is, that the polycount is a bit to high for my personal taste.
Always learn from history, to be sure you make the same mistakes again...

I will re-export a lower poly version of it. I created several LOD's for the model, including 2 higher levels and one lower LOD level.
I created this model as part of our pipeline prototype, and TBH it only took me about 3-4 hours to complete, so it maybe is not optimised for game....
Thanks Uhrwerk, comments are much appreciated.
I have some more prototype runs to do, so I will most likely kick out a couple of other models and upload them later, if people here are interested.

A couple of you mentioned that the model was a little high in the polies, being nearly 2k tris. I have taken the liberty of uploading the lower rez counterpart for this model: Coming in at only 484 tris. Hopefully this now accomodates both ends of the spectrum. I also resized both skins for this low poly version to better suit performance, 512x512 instead of 1024x1024. As before the model is completely animated. I've also included an Egg which I hope one of you guys might hook up in some kind of fun game... Grab the .zip HerePlease note: I have included both the original 2000 poly model and its 484 counterpart along with the new egg model into a new zip file. The older pack has now been removed from indiglow.co.uk. EDIT: Sorry to those of you who were happy with the 2k tri model and now have to download again just to get the egg model, but hey, it's only 5mb
