I am doing research into what websites attract people.
Please post below what type of site would attract you.
Anything from social networks, to sites like wikipedia.

Do you have a list of types? :P
Uhm, mostly technological, creative and good looking sites... as long as they are up to date and/or contain usefull information.

erm, well put it this way, what do you look for in a site,e.g ease of use or simplicity etc.

Well for me the most important characteristic for a website is the navigation & well arranged layout making it easy for you to spot where to get which information...

From time to time I get to (primarily fan-) sites where I want to get a link to download a patch, mod or something different for a certain game or software. Sometimes finding the right section for this really is a pain as you often have endless lists on a navigation bar on the left with lots of menu points. When those things then are made of bitmaps and not text so you can't search it sometimes gets difficult to pick the right option - especially when the names for the wanted section isn't really clear. With that said I especially hate when there is no dedicated download section on a site where you expect that lots of people will want to download something. Heck - sometimes you'll even have problems finding a "media" section for screenshots...

So imo the most important factor for a website is getting information from it what only works if the navigation and layout let's you find what you want and doesn't "hide" it between flashy & trendy graphics.

That's probably why I also dislike sites that pretty much are one entire flash-video you have to wait for like 15 seconds just for some kind of nice unfolding video to be downloaded and whenever you click somewhere a new animation gets loaded making browsing on that site a pain. Things like that may be good for portfolios or showreels but please not for "serious" sites that aren't there just for showing something but deliver information...

Enjoy your meal

The sites that allow users to upload their stuff are a big boom today...

Thats what I mean with defining 'type of site'... to prevent lame answers xD
I'd make a poll and limit the choice to a few stereotypical sites.

Websites that promise a lot of money when you visit them... I fall for that one all the time, hahaha. ;\)
