Hey guys

I've got a problem with some Tree Models, I downloaded them in a pack.(I'm not sure, but I guess they're from the loopix site > free one's).

Well they look well in the engine, but the problem is, that when I add a light in the engine, that they won't cast a shadow, and they are realy bright. they aren't affected by the level lighting I think.
For example when I add just 1 light in the level, and the tree model is not in the range of this light, it is fully lighted anyways.

How do I solve that problem, is there a special flag that must be set for this?

Models aren't lit by ordinary lights - only by dynamic lights. If you want to make the trees darker you should change their ambient - or use dynamic lights. You can change the ambient of a model in WED by clicking on their properties or in MED in the skin manager.

Hope that helps,

thanks for your reply Baboon, but how do you explain this?

the pumpkin is a model, the table as well even 'Sora' is a model
(yeah I've got the Sora model but without animations, and as far as I remember it's not illegal to have it, since I'm not using it in commercial projects right?)

and they all are affected by the level lighting. the left tree isn't and the right tree either \:o and the gras isnt too.
maybe it depends on the tree leafs, because they are like bitmaps?

I removed the alpha channel from the texture of the left tree and set it's overlay flag.

hope you can explain this to me please~ and how i solve the problem. dynamic lights didn't work as well =/

Try this:
Look in MED for the tree's origin!
Is it beneath the tree itself?
Most probably in the level the tree's origin is below the ground, so that it doesn't get the value of the ground's darkness.

yeah it works !
now the tree's affected by the level lighting.
You were right, the origin was beneath the model itself ^^'

Thanks for your reply Pappenheimer! \:D

Sorry for being offtopic(as its already solved, guess it wont be a problem)

i guess having(using) these models is not illegal, as long as you legally have the game, and as long as it is used only on your pc.(i mean you cannot use it for non-coms too., you cannot distrubitue it.)

I use some hl2 models for testing generally.

Yeah I legally owned the game and dumped the model from the original Ps2 dvd with some tools like the kh model viewer.
sora's only on my pc and I won't share the image of the ps2 game or the model. I had to make the image of the game for dumping but deleted it after that.
Just for testing purposes, because Im not the best in modeling/skinning/animating.

And I won't make a game with a copyrighted model, I would call it a "learning phase" I am in. Just look and use some good models to learn from them to make it better myself (;

greets
