New game: SPACEBALL

Hi,

here an impression of my new game which can be bought at
www.bitspace.eu in some days.
A trial download is already there (runs 1 min, only).
Try it, comments welcome.

It is a fast two-player game with two spheres and a ball in a
room without gravity. You are in one of the spheres and should
try to push the ball into your opponents goal. You can rotate
your sphere, but it has one thruster, only.

I would like to thank the team of Conitec for their great software
and fastlane69, nfs42, and Firoball for their assistence at the
multiplayer forum.

Have fun
Henning

nice idea.

horrible graphics: shading of the "cockpit", red and blue goal walls, standard ceiling texture, no particle effects on the engine, cheap spheres with an even cheaper ms paint texture. no level design at all.

coding: turning down leads to a 180° rotation (->gimbal lock), very bad. clicking SP leads to exiting the application and starting a new one, very unprofessional.

sound effects don't deserve any comment.

what to do: i would regard this a s a prototype, a proof of concept. it already is fun, but poorly realized.
- solve the gimbal lock problem and
- transfer all your code into a single aplication.
- get a pro graphics guy who knows about
- modelling,
- texturing and
- shaders.
it has potential, but the state as-is is not sellable.

further suggestion:
- settings menu with adjustable mouse speed, resolution, etc.
- key customisation
- an indicator where the ball is, sometimes it flies past you, bounces off a wall and then you can't find it quickly enough (-> space games, enemy display arrow)

Hello Broozar,

yes, you are right, I think it is a nice idea and not a world-class graphics. For me, the paramount question is, does it contribute much to the gameplay? There are thousands of games with a feint or recycled idea and very nice graphics. So, my effort on graphics is limited and your standards are mostly outside of my capabilities because I am not an artist. I have absolutely no problem using a standard texture for the ceiling.
Gimbal Lock will be corrected.
SP problem will be solved.
Sound could use some improvement.
Don't know how to make a multiplayer game in one application. Start with -cl and -cl -sv parameters necessary (Commercial Ed.).
Mouse adjustment not necessary, it is not used in game.
Resolution adjustment to be introduced.
Key customisation is present as far as needed.
Ball indicator intentionally left out, some confusion is intended.

So, there is some work to do.
Henning
