not as if anyone of us would meet the requirements, just to compare what skills are needed nowadays.

I read the details for the game programmers job and these are not unfulfillable requirements. Those two things which are really hard to overcome are:

- "Authorized to work in U.S." (for non US people)
- the "including but not limited to" list

If you are somehow young it is very difficult to receive strong experience on every aspect of this list. If I would try to apply in ~2 yrs on such a profile, I would start from now on to increase my knowledge and experience on two of these things.

Not all of the "desired skills and pluses" are reachable for everyone, but, while trying to step into the industry, the points "At least one shipped title where credited as programmer", "Strong networking skills", "B.S. in computer science or equivalent study in related fields" and especially "Desire and vision to help shape a project from the ground up" are easier to get as some might think.

Except the green card, which one would desperately need, this is a fair profile ID is looking for,... not like those exaggerated calls for developers here in Germany or such ... I think.

I agree with with HeelX. I know some artists who possibly would have the required skills.

I am not sure if I would like to work at id Software. They seem to be a bunch of tough macho guys and if you read some stories of ex-employees (like American McGee) then you get the impression that the working atmosphere isnīt very nice there. smile

yeah, i didn't read the programmer's job description, merely the artist ones.

id Software is looking for incredibly talented and imaginative high-poly 3D character artists to conceptualize and create characters...

* 2+ years of game industry experience as an artist
* Significant contributions to at least 1 AAA shipped game
* Required Tools: Any major 3D package, Mudbox, Zbrush, Modo, Photoshop and/or similar tools
* and you need texturing experience, something that normally a 2d designer does

id-Software is a really cool and independent company. They often rowed against the stream with Linux, OpenGL and worked with affordable tools like Lightwave. But nevertheless they always come up with amazing games and top game engines.

I would love to work for id-Software but I have to publish an AAA game first to get into smile haha
