For me this is a big surprise. We all thought id-Software can render only indoors. We? No offense, but you probably meant 'you'... iD Software invented (or at least implemented) many of the groundbreaking new things in the past, it comes to no surprise to me that they are able to do this again now. It does remain to be seen whether the new engine is a revolution or evolution. I think evolution and not really a hugely immense step forward. Just look at their games, with the exception of Quake 3 Arena (that was more or less a Quake inspired copy of Unreal Tournament ) their games more or less always meant a visible (r)evolution of things. Even with Quake 3 Arena the underlying technology was really impressive and it came to no surprise that many developers afterwards jumped on it and used it for their games. So... again, I had expected nothing less from iD Software, although I must admit I feared for the worst when they said we should not have high expectations when it comes to visuals shortly before they really announced and showed "Rage" and bits of the Project 5 Engine. Of course you can't cause a revolution with each new game, but to say we thought they could only render indoors is a bit ignorant to be honest. (What about the Quake 3 games with outdoor? Quake Wars and so on? It's not all indoors you know. ) I think they will rule the engine market very soon. People said the same about CryEngine 2. Unreal-Engine will get tough competition that way. True, but the Unreal Engine 3 is hugely popular amongst developers at the moment though, so I don't really think it will really get them into trouble before Epic completes their next Unreal Engine.

Oh, Phemox is commenting my posts again with all sorts of personal attacks (calling me "ignorant" and similar). Phemox' post is clearly addressed to talk about personal issues, not about the world-editor. A big percentage is psychological stuff and decomposes my posting. He tries to figure something out that I never wrote there.
I will tell it only once: Stop that!
But unfortunately he does it again and again. At the end only a moderator can stop this.
Nothing more to say. I will notify a moderator because I know that discussions like that end very badly, become off-topic and break the forum rules.

I was also notified, but I don't see personal attacks here.
As orange brat said, play nicely or thread gets lockdown.

Inestical: I will write it more clearly. You will find phrases like "but you probably meant 'you'..." And he called me "ignorant".
To make it even more clear: I started this thread to talk about a good world-editor from id-Tech5, to share some excitement about a good technology. I don't want to debate personal things with anyone here.
But if somebody writes very clearly addressed phrases like "but you probably meant 'you'...", then this IS personal and it is NOT related to the topic.
This does not belong here and breaks the rules. Read the rules again if you are not sure!
