Hey Guys,

I have a little hardware problem, and I figured I would ask you guys, since it is sunday and support is unavailable for another day.
I bought a USB 2.0 pci card yesterday and installed it. Driver installation went just fine, but everytime I connect my devices to it, the pc either freezes totally, so that I have to manually shut it down, or it does that shutting down all by itself, meaning that the screen goes black, and there I am, back into BIOS frown
The weird thing is that everytime I connect a new device, the drivers for that device are installed correctly, and they even work for a little while. Until the screen goes black.
Thanks for your help,

padrino

Sounds like your power supply is to weak to handle the additional amount of power which is needed for the USB devices.

In addition I would check the drivers for your motherboard chipset, a missing/old driver could also lead into this problems with expansion cards.

Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.

That is really awkward, since it caused no problems with the old USB 1.1 xDD But possible, nevertheless. So I guess I will have to call support tomorrow and ask them what they think about it, and probably will have to buy a new power supply smile
Thank you ever so much smile

USB 2.0 takes a little more power than the old USB 1.1
What size power supply do you have?

Problem is - I do not really know smile
The machine we are talking about here is really old, some 5 to 6 years I believe. I checked on the power supply itself, but couldn't make out anything.

yeah, it could be a weak power supply or if the computer had me on it it might not support the drivers or something.... or perhaps the peripheral that your hooking up draws too much power.
