Hi people,

i want to create a character selection system. It can be used in RPG Games or also in another games.

My goals:

- have different characters that can be choosed by clicking on them
- Every character should play another animation when you click him (cheering)
- I want a smooth interpolation between the stand and cheer frame
- Sounds should play
- A panel with different settings for the character should appear (strength, agility and so on)
- A camera movement to the selected character
- Rotate buttons to rotate the selected character
- every class should have a different selection ring under it. but not only a pic i want to create a particle animation

Wish me luck guys and support me xD

Here´s the beginning

The beginning...

Looks solid so far, good luck.

You know you can go really wild on character selection scenes. The more unique the better for me. Its like you are are already in the game when your characters are not just standing there waiting to be clicked.

For example, Ive been playing this online MMO called Sword of the New World and the character selection screen is quite good. All the characters are in a room and just sitting around talking to eachother or playing chess. When you click on them they get up and stand in front of the camera. Quite nice.

@ Rasch

Nice start indeed, the most important part will probably be the tweening between all the different animations wink wink

@ TigerTao

Sword of the New World is graphical great when knowing it's a MMO. The character selection is thus a great example of that smile smile

Cheers

instead of rotation buttons, I think it would be much cooler if you could click on the selected character and hold your click while moving the mouse to rotate. I like that way much more.
also, this way it would really work for all genres, if you have buttons, those buttons must always be adjusted to the style etc...just an idea.
Good luck with this smile

Would be great if you can combine your player from different parts (Head, body,...) wink

hey, i am working on a character selection system too. but my approach is a bit diffrent. (character list on the left, you pick one from list, see her/him on a platform with a stats panel on the bottom-right(kill/death/money level exp etc.) )

btw, good work so far.

you could have the different available characters revolve around in a ring like in Donkey Kong 64 also, I think that would make it look more dynamic and smoother
