I think I will buy once C4 1.5 and the 2nd edition of the book released.

I bought the C4 engine in 2005 but never use it, I just read the wiki about their shader system and editor, wow I think I need to consider C4 again.

I bought this book and I even got the chance to review the earlier versions to help improving it. It is very well done at my mind. It is easy to follow. They describe the tools and they develop 4 different sample games and they even show how to integrate PhysX into the engine.

The next update of the engine will contain a node based shader editor, endless terrain with a terrain editor, real-time shadow mapping, new collision and a new physics system. This is probably the largest update they ever had.

But the owners of the C4 engine will get it for free, like always. And if someone owns a copy of the new C4 book he will also get the next edition (including terrain tutorials) for free.

I believe that this technology will become the most advanced and powerful indie game dev technology available.

Do you have to display their logo on engine start up or any where else in your game.

Yes.
This is easy to find at their website:
http://www.terathon.com/c4engine/stdlicense.php
Quote:
2. For each Work created by the Licensee using the C4 Engine and distributed by any means, the “Powered by the C4 Engine” logo provided by the Licensor must be displayed as follows.

(a) If the Work has a title screen, then the logo must appear on the title screen. Alternatively, the Work may display the logo by itself for not less than one second before the title screen appears each time the Work is launched. In either case, the logo must be displayed at a reasonable size not less than 256 pixels in width.

(b) If the Work is distributed in a physical package, then the logo must be printed on the package at a size not less than one inch (2.54 cm) in width.

(c) In no case shall the logo be cropped or modified in appearance from its original form.

C4 does look good I'll admit, and seems to be a nice engine overall, but It also seems to have some small framerate issues at times. It's not a bad price and a good engine though.

If this is true then you should inform Eric about this. He is very responsive and will add it to the bug tracker immediately.

At least I did not encounter framerate issues so far, even if I placed lots of models into the demo mission with 2048 px resolution textures, shaders, shadows and several light sources at ones. Many other engines slowdown in such cases.
