I know that its possible but I never tried so how can I do that again?
I just want some parts of a model to be transparent.
I know that I do have to do something with the alpha-channel
but can somone tell me how to do this?

regards

Aztec

In order to have something be transparent you need to have an alpha map that is white where you want the model to show, and black where you don't want it to show. When i made my muzzle flash the other day I just added an alpha channel which was automatically white where the flash was and black everywhere else. Save this as a .tga and make sure to select Keep Alpha Channels.

Then in MED go to edit -> manage skins. Then click skin editor and under texture select the .tga and under Texture Settings or whatever make sure to check off the alpha box.

That was probably pretty confusing since I just kind of rambled from memory but it should be alright to figure out. If you don't have Photoshop I'm sure there is another way to do it but I don't know how.

You can do the same using the free Gimp Software.
Here are the steps:
- open up Gimp
- load your image
- go to "Ebene -> Transparenz -> Alphakanal hinzufügen"
- go to "Ebene -> Maske -> Ebenenmaske hinzufügen"
- make sure that white is fully solid (non-transparent) and click ok
Now you can draw using grey scale colors to define the parts which should be transparent.
At last step you need to save the image as .tga file

Well I'm rahter new to this, but here's what I did.

I didn't asign a texture for a part of my model, but instead just asigned a skin in MED and defined the material there and set the alpha amount to less then 100. That way I was able to have the window of my vehicle to be transparent, but not the rest. Works great if it's a part of the model, and not an area that is defined by a texture.

Strange thing is that other entities are then correctly partly visible trough that window, but parts of the same object are completly visible, as if there is no window. Altough I think that could be a problem caused by my system...

So long...
