Hello,

I have a .3ds model and I want to be a .mdl model.

The problem is the texture, I can't seem to keep it on the model.

Do I need a go between program? Convert from .3ds to something else, to .mdl?

Thanks,

Import your model in MED,
I think its already textured, if you textured it in an another programm.
But you can texturize it with the skin Manager in MED
I hope I helped you a lil bit

My system:
- Core 2 Quad 6600(4x 2,4GhZ)
- 2GB Ram
- GeForce 7050(:-))
- Windows seven

Or if that doesn't work for you, you could try exporting the model from your modeller as an .x file (which is very good at keeping textures). Then, if you have milkshape3D, import the model, and then export it as a .mdl
I haven't tried it so I am not sure if it works, but it's highly likely that it will.

Thanks, I have to go buy milkshape, but I think that is what I was looking for.

I hope you tried a demo of milkshape first to see if it worked.

You can't import with the demo, iirc

OK. I will test it for you and let you know tomorrow. At the moment I am using another system which does not have milkshape installed, and I can't interupt what I am doing right now. So tomorrow after I get home from work, I will check it for you.

cryWork got cancelled for today.
I just found something. MED can actually import .x files. I did not know that. So you don't actually have to buy milkshape.
Just export .x from your modeller, import into MED, and save as a .mdl. The only thing I found about this method that wasn't cool, is that the bone manipulations I did on the model in max, were all reset. Which means that all the models I posed in max have to be all reposed and animated. Double work!
I will check and see if the same results occur if I used milkshape. I'll do that in about an hour, and let you know the results, although I have a hunch... Let me not even think about that. frown

Just as I thought... You don't need milkshape. It does the same as MED, only it loses track of the texture. Use MED to import your models.
Sorry I took so long in returning. Something came up.
